I hated on a trend that I didn't understand and ended up doing it when I technically improved.

I, for one, think that's awesome.

The fact that you can admit to this, even anonymously, is pretty impressive.

I feel like "one of the group" now, and it's awesome.

I'm actually more excited about the personality categories than the icon-centric ones just because those categories haven't existed before. Plus, it deals with the personal nature of the graphics community, which I have really grown to love and become absorbed in over the past year.

I see where you're coming from and agree for the most part, but I think I can kinda see where the anon is coming from because (correct me if I'm wrong, anon) that they feel those categories are more about the icon maker as a person and not their skill/icons. Perhaps they just feel like people like them for them and not really their work? Idk.

which I have really grown to love and become absorbed in over the past year.
Half a year for me but samesies :3

I don't think I'll be nominated at all.

I sometimes don't think that other people's icons are that great even when they're from these great iconmakers that I love. I also get envious/jealous some iconmakers get more feedback than me when I worked hard on my icons and get a measly one or two comments.

Same.

Oh, I'm sure everyone can think of at least one maker who is very well-known but who they don't personally take a shine to. That's just the way it goes, honestly. Sometimes, I'm sure it's due to being disappointed after someone's hyped up, and in other cases, it's just a matter of that popular maker's work not appealing to you for any numbers of reasons. I think it's completely normal, anon ( ... )

i can see why you would post it here as a confession
but i think it's quite normal to not like every icon
and even sometimes dislike a great icon maker's work

for the second part of your confession:
life isn't fair and sometimes you don't get back what you put in
on the other hand, you don't know what these other makers put in

Sometimes when I'm looking through my icon inspiration folder, I want to quit making icons forever because I don't think I can ever make anything as good.

I don't keep an icon inspiration folder (partly cuz I need all the hard drive space I can get), but there's at least one time each week when I come across a post that's so brilliant (this week, it was a small batch by ), that creating my own stuff seems futile. I'm sure all makers wanna inspire others, not intimidate them, but we can't control how we feel when we view other people's work, and sometimes, the physical evidence that another person is that skilled/talented can make us doubt ourselves. I feel you, anon, and I'm sure lots of other people do as well.

I'm guessing it's talipuu since she posted a small batch this week & library_of_sex mentioned talipuu's post in her icon talking journal.
