I'm an old LPmud player, who moved on to Runescape when muds stopped being available. I played Flyff, Land of Destiny, and Haven and Hearth. I still play Ikariam and Runescape ( Read more... )

if you choose Everquest 2, use the Unrest server and you can join my guild. My characters are Smibbo and Kuanyin

I like EQ2 better than most other MMOs because the players are generally nicer, helpful and laid-back. There's not all the inane "my dick is bigger than yours" chatter.
I've played a LOT of MMOs and I keep coming back to EQ2

I've never played EQ2 before, I'm looking at the website and it's talking about EQ Extended? What is the best one to get?

EQ Extended is the pay-as-you-go system. The servers are not shared so its the same game as EQ2, just on different servers and with a different system of paying. I've looked at it and if you're wanting to play long-term, then the regular subscription service is better value. Pay-as-you-go offers a few more things that regular scrip doesn't *YET* but considering the regular service has an in-game currency that buys special items, its really not that different in play, just in pay. The pay-as-you-go ends up being REALLY expensive if you want all the perks. It also means you'll be playing against people who pretty much buy every perk (because they can) and if you don't you're at a disadvantage.

I would suggest LotRO on the Landroval server- Everybody there is very nice and helpful, and if you like rp, it's the unofficial rp server. If you don't, that's fine too!

LOTRO is also very kind to solo players. I don't think you have to disable firewall, but I'm not sure. It's also (allegedly) free, and you get enough turbine points to get a mount just by playing the game for a little bit. There are deeds that give you shop points, and the mount skill is quite a necessary one if you're running around the shire and the like. There are subscriptions that give you 500 shop points a month as well as the benefits, but they're not truly necessary.

MapleStory! :)

I mostly play solo, except if my husband feels like playing with me. I managed to go from 0 to 70 in only a month on it, playing maybe an hour or two a day, but I've also actually been playing on and off for 4-5 years, hah.

It's free, but extras cost money, like if you want a shop to auto sell your items for a better price, or want different clothes, whatever. :)

The graphics aren't anything spectacular, it's 2d and side-scrolling, but eh, I like it. :)

I second MapleStory. Only MMORPG that has held my interest for more than a week.

Warhammer Online might appeal. Smaller than wow, but a similar style. I'm not sure of their firewall restrictions though.
