This post makes me jealous. I can't see in 3D for some reason. Whenever I see those displays at electronic stores I try just ONE MORE TIME... no. :( 3DS will never be in my grasp. Sigh.

There's a slider that can turn off the 3D on the 3DS. :D

Yes... but what is the point in buying it if you can't See it?

It should be worth noting that while the 3DS won't play Gameboy game cartridges, there will be a Virtual Console (ala the Wii's Virtual Console) where Nintendo's backlog of Gameboy games will be available for download. For this alone I am excited since I missed out on a lot of classic games.

VC for the 3DS? That sounds great! I was just thinking yesterday about how much I would love to play old games like the first Super Mario Bros. for the original Gameboy.

I've been dying to play Mario Land 2 for similar reasons. I've been haunted by some of the music from the game since childhood with no way to listen to it to get it out of my head!

Yup, the 3DS will play standard ds/dsi/3DS games.
The top screen is slightly bigger than a normal DSI.
The 3DS will basically have the same features as the dsi, such as the ability to download games, I'm not sure if you will be able to download 3D games tho. As far as I know they will come in cartridges.
The dsiware will still work on the 3DS tho.

There's some more info here http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nintendo_3DS
You can see the comparisons. There's also a link showing some of the game titles in the works. :)

I also wouldn't be surprised if in a year or two Nintendo released a 3DS in the Xl sizes. I think it was a year or less after the dsi was released that the dsi-xl came out. I'm interested to try the 3DS, but if I do happen to enjoy it, I could see myself preferring a larger verion. Who knows! :p

I’m testing one out tomorrow in Tokyo so I’ll let you know if I learn anything new.

What everyone has said is accurate.

The top and bottom screen are not the same size- I’m curious to see how this effects DS games that utilize both screens to display one image.

The 3DS is incredible- although the comment below has a poor review from the poster's friend- so I recommend everyone try it themselves before buying or writing off the system.

The top screen is wide screen- I still wonder how 2 screen playing, for example Konami's Tokimeki Memorial girl's side 3rd Story. The 3D was cleanest on simpler games. For example the cut scenes on the new Professor Layton game were busy and a little difficult for my eyes to focus on without having the console directly in front of me. Simpler graphics were wonderful. I've never wanted to play nintendogs but had a blast on the 3DS.

The AR is fantastic and really needs to be tried out to get it. The camera is such fun. The effects are fun and even utilize the microphone for effects. Pictures are taken in 3D and 2D. Again, I have high reviews- test one out and make your own opinion!
