Animals Galore - Miami Metrozoo

Warning: pic spam ahead!

After attempting to clean and fix up our camera, which has taken a real beating this past year, we needed to test it. So Sunday afternoon Hubby and I headed down to Miami Metrozoo to play around with it. Unfortunately, the afternoon lighting was kind of poor, so many of the photos didn't turn out that well anyway (to which ( Read more... )

Squeeing at the kangaroos, koala (ohmygoshcuddly!), rhinocermoose, giraffes, zebra, and kissin' camels. I'm gonna go home tonight and cuddle my teddy bear and imagine that it's that koala. (They're one of my favorite animals, you see.)

May I please use some of these for icons if I give you credit for the photos?

One of my best friends is a koala freak, so I always try and get a few pictures for her everytime we're at a zoo. This one was moving around and had his eyes open right before I pulled our the camera. *pout* Too slow.

Feel free to use any pics that you like.

At some point I may make a few icons, but right now i'm still bogged down finishing my Veterans Day icons.

Thank you kindly! They don't let us that close to the koalas at Los Angeles or San Diego, and they're always behind glass, so getting a good picture is tough. (You can get closer to the pandas at San Diego than you can to the koalas, for crying out loud!)

This guy was behind glass as well, but I went armed with paper towels. ;-)

I've never been to the LA zoo, but I thought I remembered the San Diego koalas being in an open enclosure surrounded by a boardwalk. Or am I confusing my zoos? It's been over a decade since I've been to San Diego. *tries to ignore the passing of time*

Thanks! I'm glad you liked them.

But this is just a little digicam also, two years old and really beat up. I've been trying to use a little mini tripod when I can. It really helps steady the shots.

Koala. *squee* Ok, that's trying to forget that elidyce, an aussie native let me in on the secret that they're nasty little creatures.

*grin* One of my best friends is a koala freak, so she saved all her money and free time for a trip to Australia. When she got there she even went to a park that lets you hold them. Her later comments… “They smell funny and are gropey.” But she still wants to go back again.

I think we all just have a natural tendency to anthropomorphise all furry animals as ‘cute and cuddly’ regardless as how unrealistic that really is.

(But I still thought the koala turned out cute, so thanks!)

Thanks! I'm glad you liked them.

The lighting seemed off to me all afternoon, but a few still turned out well. And I just was really lucky with the camels, as that lasted only a second. ;-)

It reminds me of a beautiful zoo I visited in Canada. It was so big there, that we were the one in 'jail' in a little train! (sort of). I loved it a lot!

Thanks for these pictures.

Miami zoo was almost flattened by Hurricane Andrew 15 years ago, so as they've rebuilt, the went with the more modern 'open' habitats. It's really nice, and one of my favorite zoos. Which zoo did you visit in Canada?

I visited the Saint Félicién Zoo in Québec. It was wonderful, I remember we spent all the day there (I went to Canada when I was a 16 for a little less than a month, a few people from my summer camp decided it would be wonderful to enjoy such a zoo!)

I wish I could say Paris has zoos, but alas, they all have been closed because they were too old and animals weren't well there, which was a pity. I would love going to the zoo again! It's a peaceful place, imo. In one day, I go back to Quebec, I'm going to visit that zoo again!
