The Lion Sleeps Tonight

I've always loved that song but when it comes on the radio it's a different recording that sounds terrible to me. The instruments and voices are different in a not good way.

This is the version that sucks

This is the version I grew up with and only seems to exist on a record I have

KTEK?
That's why I made it into an MP3 in the first place. :P
That and The Guess Who - American Woman are already in the KTEK playlist.
I've got some more that I'm going to add.
The Monkees - I'm A Believer
The McCoys - Hang on Sloopy
Otis Redding - The Dock Of The BAY
The Lemon Pipers - Green Tambourine
Tommy James & the Shondells - Crimson & Clover
The Turtles - Happy Together
The Boxtops - The Letter
Santo & Johnny - Sleep Walk
Barry McGuire - Eve of Destruction

The "sucks" version is what I'm used to. My guess is that your vinyl is a demo or b-side? Both sound like the Tokens. I didn't know the song's history until just now though:
