I don't have a television at home and certainly don't have Foxtel, so this may be old news to y'all, but totally new to me. In my interweb travels today, I stumbled across this site:

4 Ingredients

You can watch the entire Series 2 in one hit, which I actually just finished doing.

It was... interesting. A bit like a train wreck.

On the one hand, no ( Read more... )

you know, I look at 4 Ingredients and it is not for me. HOWEVER, I think it provides a really good starting point for people who can't cook and get daunted by well, normal recipes. it's hard for you and I to think about it cause we are pretty competent cooks - but to a whole raft of people out there, they don't even know how to crack an egg!! (true story - I know someone who was once asked for a girlfriend to crack an egg into a bowl and he didn't know how).

so i think if someone can make the first step to start cooking, then at least they're not eating processed, prepackaged food.

i don't think the 4 Ingredient girls ever claim that it's healthy cooking though?

EXACTLY!!!!

i used to live with a guy that couldnt cook for shit.. and had hardly ever cooked. his mum died a few years before he moved out of home, so she never had the chance to instill him with a couple of simple, faithful recipes.

his aunty gave him the book that those ladies wrote and that got him started, and then interested in cooking. his gf taught him a couple of faithful recipes, so he had basic things under his belt.

and then that combined with living with me (im more of an adhoc style of cook) meant that he started to become more confident in experimenting a bit himself.

he went from being someone that would buy a microwave stir-fry, to someone that would use a bottle of pre-made flavour, to someone that would use basic ingredients.

the four ingredients books were a big part of what kicked all that off.

what a great story - if I was a trainer, I would set myself up so I would actually teach people how to cook as well. So many guys (sorry to be gender specific) don't know how to cook. I didn't cook that much growing up - but I was in the kitchen helping my mum, so I knew what stuff should look like. A lot of guys (and some girls) can't fathom where to start. It's all so daunting! Slice onions thinly, fry til soft and golden brown - how thin, how soft, how brown - oh sht, now they're burnt!!!

I think at least 4 Ingredients teaches basic food combos too

like fish + lemon, basil + tomato, that sort of thing.

YES.. ive often thought that personal training should involve food training too.. and more than just the "eat this, dont eat this" style of thing.

however, i've also thought that it should involve general health training too, "eat garlic, chili, horseradish (etc) when it hits cold season".. balance natural prevention with medical relief/cure.. etc.

though i've also thought that financial advisors should also consult in regards to professional training, employment, career advisory, etc as well. cause hell, that's where 90+% of your wealth is going to come from.
