Tie Dye cake

We had a cake competition at work last week, and I was thinking about how to make something different that might have a chance at winning. Normally I bake simple cakes from scratch, with no electric mixer - like banana cake or lamingtons. I was going to ask you guys for suggestions, but then I came across a photo of a Tie Dye Cake, and it grabbed

The winning cake was Tiramisu, with honourable mentions to a pumpkin pie & a strawberry yoghurt mousse cake covered in berries.

I only took a photo with my mobile.

Oh they sound great! I would love to try this one day - do you think an intricate pattern would work (e.g feathering it with a skewer, or placing the batter carefully in the pan to make a pattern) or do you think that would just mix all the colours in together and ruin the effect?
