Question for the long-termers

Sep 09, 2008 16:18

I had my RNY thirteen months ago. I've lost 104 pounds to date. The entire time, I've stuck to a routine when it comes to food. I drink iced coffee with chocolate protein powder for breakfast every day. I eat either a Lean Cuisine or some sandwich meat and cheese for lunch. For dinner, I eat protein first and then if there's room, I will have ( Read more... )

My weight loss stopped entirely at 10 months out! I had to fight like crazy to get from the 190's to goal. I think that part of it in my case was mental. I didn't want to exercise as much as it takes. I didn't want to plan eating as much as it takes. I simply was tired and low on willingness. It took me awhile to get past that.

I can say that it DOES work. If you force yourself to exercise, log your food, weigh and measure it if needed, and PLAN it, I can pretty much promise you will start losing. You may not like what you find out. For example, if I do some exercise and eat 1400 calories a day I can gain weight. I have to eat 1000 or less PLUS exercise pretty hard to lose.

If you are maintaining with that food plan, I would say that adding weight training and cardio will help. also, cutting the wine/chocolate in half. Not giving it up 100%, but just less often.

Those won't cause dramatic results, but you might be able to lose .5 pound a week with that. It will be slow, but eventually getting you that extra 10-15.

And.... maybe it's not worth giving up the wine/chocolate. Maybe you don't get enough benefit to sacrifice ratio. You have to decide.

A woman in my support group stopped losing weight nine months ago, but she's since gone down two whole sizes. This is due to weight training and toning alone. She doesn't need to get surgery for the skin, either, because she's trained so diligently.

I think the Y sounds like a good step. If you focus on toning and some cardio, I bet your shape will change more even if the numbers don't roll off as quickly.

I think we're actually surgery twins if I remember correctly (8/6/07?) But I'm kind of in the exact spot! I'm at 171 and have been teetering there for a long time. I would like to get to 150 AND have plastic surgery. I'm tall and feel like I have a large frame which I could still stand to loose from. I kind of do a routine thing too...maybe I'll try logging everything calorie wise then cut some things out here and there and see how that goes...

Thanks for all of your responses. Elora, we are the "surgery twins". Isn't it funny that we're stuck at the same spot? I guess I'm either going to have to accept that this is it and work on maintenance, or really get serious about calorie counting and exercise if I want to lose more. Either way, the Honeymoon is DEFINITELY OVER for me. It's all work from here on out.
