When I am clueless, I am really clueless. It was pointed out to me last night, and I've since seen some comments/posts today that Ronon and Try are EXOTIC ALIEN OTHER; most likely due to the dreads

One of my asian friends once took my hand, rolled it over to look at the very white under side and said "You are so exotic to me, with your white skin and green eyes and red hair". Mind you, I don't think I have ever read fan fic that exoticised someone who looks like me. No doubt because I am not exotic to other white fella's.
Yeah it does. Redheads were one of the few reasons I was excited to go to America as a child. In comic books there were so many redheads. I just wanted to see someone's 'red' hair from 3 feet or so away. Most of the tourists I saw were blonde.
I was sorely disappointed not to run into anyone with red hair for years.
fetishizing the tall, strikingly muscular and hansome men of color as object to drool over as if they were White Female Slave Owners with one hand down their panties. It's a creative obsession because dreads are oh so not white/not normal/not status quo.
OUCH!
Read KHC's interview in the book Dreads, if you havent-- it will soothe.
If it's actually paraben free it's something I'd actually be able to use without resorting to trying to make stuff for myself and losing energy half-way through.
That's a really interesting rant with a lot of things I never thought much about.
I guess growing up in NYC where you pretty much see examples of all cultures on a regular basis, nothing strikes me as overly exotic. It's just a way too look. Even some very odd foodstuffs (like eating shrimp with the head on or eating an egg that has a partlly formed chick in it) doesn't strike me as exotic so much as something that's out of my comfort zone.
Then again, one of my kids' cousin's had bright red dreads when he was 14 and already 5'10". Always easy to spot in a crowd.
Hey, there. I'm strolling through on account of the SGA-race discussion.
I'm Haitian. And I grew up in South Florida. I don't believe in exotic people. I believe in exotic plants.
For me, I get tagged with 'exotic' bunches. It's tiresome. What's exotic for some is 'girl/guy next door' for others. But tell that to people who are handicapped with the belief that normal=them=white.
delux_vixens told me recently due to all of this that I should not mention to anyone who is white that I am 'Black-East Indian-Amerindian' mixed and also Jewish, or their heads might explode.
So I hear you and hear you.
Dreads is definitely girl/guy next door for me. (Also, Mom, Dad, and Uncle D)

And yeah, exotic is only exotic outside of its home-town.
