You got a lot of comments about the sudden turn in this piece, but I read it as the fact that people saw the cat's death as being linked to the other events. In other words, life throws randomness at us and we attempt to make sense of it. I also found it ominous that such a thing would happen during this date with this milquetoast, Bradley.
