Summary: A first kiss between Hermione and Snape.
Dumbledore had paired them together to work on a potion that could change the balance of power into their favour. Neither Hermione nor Professor Snape had wanted to work together, but both had wanted to see the end of the Dark Lord and the constant threat of war. They had put aside their differences and formed an uneasy alliance. As time went by, both teacher and student became more comfortable around one another while they worked on the potion. It wasn’t that they suddenly realized how they complimented one another, or fell in love, or any other silly thing like that. They were able to put their mutual dislike and distaste for one another aside so that they could work together. Hermione took great pride in assisting the dreaded Potions Master and when they finally made the successful potion that would give Harry the much-needed advantage, Hermione broke into a smile. The radiant smile dazzled Severus Snape and it made him realize that the end to the bleak, lonely, and dangerous life that he had been living was finally in sight. He pulled her into his arms and kissed her on the lips. The kiss was clumsy and anything but romantic, yet there was still a sense of celebration in the air as they pulled back from one another. As he looked into her brown eyes, Severus could see the endless possibilities. Neither spoke as she collected her things, as they both knew neither would speak of that shared kiss and both knew that nothing would change between them because it simply couldn’t change between them.
