[ Making their way from the Garden Lobby to the Fisherman's Horizon inn are a boy and a girl, each with a course catalog tucked under their arms and matching confused faces. Their bodies are turned into each other slightly, enough to let onlookers know that they're friends. The girl's eyes keep darting about, whether in amazement or sheer surprise

[Accidentally walks into Kairi as she's trying to leave one of the shops.]

I'm sorry I wasn't looking, are you all right?

[ ghjfdkgh a purple mass--oh no wait it is a person--WHUMP ]

Aah! I'm sorry! I should have been paying better attention. I hope I didn't hit you with my book...

[ Her course catalog is still tucked under one arm, and Kairi gives Kate an apologetic look. ]

No, no, it was my fault... [Sees the course catalog.] Hell of a time to be new here, huh?

[ A little shrug and a laugh, like 'what can you do?' ]

Might as well make the most of it! To be honest, being close to the ocean reminds me of home, so I don't mind. I'm Kairi, who are you?

Ah? [Dawn happened to be in one of those Fancy Shops! ... of course, she couldn't afford any of it, so she was pretty much just browsing. Also, ignore the strange fly that won't seem to go away. Even when she manages to squish it, it just comes back..]

Are you two new? It must be fate that such a cute couple would end up here together.

[lighthoused]

[ Blinking at the other girl. Does she mean...? And then Kairi laughs, the bridge of her nose pinkish. ] Riku's just a friend! I've known him for a long time, so I guess we must seem that way, huh?

[The grin on his face and his chuckling pretty much hide the slightest change in pigment on his face.]

'Just a friend', huh? You wound me, Kairi. I thought I was more than that.

[Dawn's smile only gets bigger. Aw, maybe they were a cute couple!]

It seems your friend thinks otherwise, miss! I'm Dawn, by the way. It's nice to have you guys here. There aren't many so close to my age.

[Yukio's actually on his way back to the Garden from the inn. He's got a briefcase and a few books on him, like he's off to work in the library, when he sees a pair of... cadets, probably? They're not the first people he's met who seem a little... well, too interested in their surroundings to not be new.

In any case, he approaches the pair with a smile on his face.]

Nice place, isn't it?

[Riku stands with his hands shoved in his pockets, taking in the surroundings and making observations about them in his mind, all while keeping an eye on Kairi. When Yukio approaches, he only gives a nod. Being new must have been plastered all over their faces.]

It's not so bad looking. Doesn't exactly beat home though.

[ Kairi sends Riku a frown. Be polite, biffle! WHAT WOULD YOUR MOTHER SAY. ]

The islands are pretty tough to beat; it's good to smell the ocean, though! When Garden takes off again, we probably won't get to for a while...so we'd better enjoy it.

[ To Yukio, she offers a friendly smile. ]

I'm Kairi, and this is Riku. Who are you?

[spareglasses]

[He glances from Riku and then to Kairi, laughing a little as he does so.]

I assume you both lived right along the water? That must have been a great environment to grow up in.

[At the introductions, he nods.]

Yukio Okumura--I'm an instructor here. It's nice to meet you both.

[Bulla's busily shopping when she sees Kairi there in one of the shops. Kairi seems to be the only person around her own age in there right now, so she approaches with a couple of dresses.]

Hey, can I bug you for an opinion? I'm trying to pick between the pink one and the green one.

[lighthoused]

Sure!

[ Kairi turns and inspects each choice as Bulla holds it up to herself; the other girl has a figure that's easy to flatter, so both dresses would look good, but... ] I'd go for the pink--and not just because it's my favorite colour. [ A laugh. ] It makes your eyes stand out and your skin look rosier, too.

[ Especially with that blue hair, a good contrasting shade was what Bulla needed. ] Hope that helps.

Yeah it does. Thanks! My mom's got the same colouring and she can pull green off, so I was having trouble choosing.

[She hangs the green one back up. If she had access to her family's money, she'd have bought both and likely even more. However, since she's got sponsorship money only, she's got to watch her finances more. It's made her a more selective shopper.]

My name is Bulla, by the way.

[And judging by the way the girl didn't stare at her turquoise hair...]

Are you a student at Garden? I don't think I've seen you around before.

Well--to be honest, you could definitely do both. [ She smiles. ] But the pink's the better choice, by a little bit. As for me, I'm Kairi! Nice to meet you, Bulla.

[ Next to mouse kings and talking ducks, turquoise hair is nothing. ]
