[For anyone perceptive enough to notice--or just anyone who happened to be out and about really, the sight a new arrival decked out in some high-tech toaster on his face visor-like mask is probably something that would have caught their attention ( Read more... )

[Reading in the quad had become one of Mia's favorite pastimes, especially once the weather'd gotten better. Casually flipping through pages, she then set the book aside and started to pick another one.

Hang on. Noticing someone familiar, she stood up, setting her books aside and approaching him. Even if he wasn't that close, she really couldn't mistake that mask for anything else.]

Diego...? [she gave him a slight smile as she tucked some hair behind her ear] Long time no see.

[That didn't take very long. Whether it was fate or just plain old coincidence, Diego wasn't about to show any sign of surprise when she approached. He'd been planning to meet up with her sooner or later, after all. Besides, being caught off guard wasn't exactly his style]

Mia Fey. [Said with a confident smirk, before he set his coffee aside and stood to greet her]

Come here often?

Only if you do. [still, she seems pleased to see him---even if she wasn't really aware he was coming.] What brings you to this part of Garden?

You said it yourself, kitten. It's been too long.

[Grin]

Besides, I've heard the coffee here was no better than used motor oil. I figured someone needed to step in and put a stop to it.

[While Maria wasn't quite that person, she had noticed the man. While she may be no expert on disabilities, the mask does bring to mind a few things on the ARK, which is why she's approaching him with a smile.]

Is it all right if I join you?

[Diego watched the girl from behind that mask as she approached. She was completely unfamiliar to him, but as the first to actually do something beyond stare in his direction, he had to give her some credit]

No objections here.

Thank you.

[She settles herself carefully and lady-like beside him, looking around at the Quad before turning back to him, still smiling brightly.]

My name is Maria. I'm afraid I'm a bit new here, so I don't recognize you.

Looks like that makes two of us. I was just transferred here from Galbadia Garden, myself.

[Hold plz, drinking more coffee now glug glug glug]

The name's Diego Armando. I'll be co-teaching some of the courses on international law.

[At first Zuko doesn't realize that he's not exactly alone in the courtyards which stand next to the open entrance way of the quad, as he goes through the motions of his daily firebending routines. His stance is rigid and tense, the movements of his arms and hands unyielding as one motion flows into the next. His left foot slides back along the ground and he braces himself as the thin stream of fire ignites around his clenched fist and follows in a straight line through the air above his head, his arm lifting upwards.

Doing any firebending is better to do outside in an open area, as the Headmaster had advised months ago. Not the training center, so there he is during his free lunch period.]

[Diego hadn't expected there would be a light show to celebrate his arrival--not that the kid really seemed to notice he was there.

He didn't plan to change that fact anytime soon either. He just say and watched, sipping his coffee like a good masked creeper]

[And what a creeper he was. Toasterchan.

Zuko takes up a few more stances, more streams of fire and heat slicing through the air, and eventually he comes to a halt, sweating and panting from the exercises.

Only then does it dawn on Zuko that he's not alone.]

[Goose only wanted to go to the quad for a nice moment of relaxation. A moment to appreciate and gaze at the sky, a chance to marvel at its beauty, something he usually did prefer to do on his own. Regardless, he usually didn't mind having company.

This case was different, however. That visor looked... a lot like a very certain creature he'd seen before, an inorganic creature. It made him freeze in his tracks and impulsively speak.]

W-What?

[That was more the reaction that Diego had been expecting from the student body at large. At least this guy didn't disappoint]

Did your mother ever tell you? It's impolite to stare.

Really, huh? She sure didn't tell me not to be wary either.

[Goose took a single step closer, his sight heavily focused on nothing other than that visor. His stare seemed sharp.]

Who are you supposed to be, huh? Why are you here?
