Happy Valentimes Day, No One!

Feb 12, 2010 21:35

Crazy day. The local news has been predicting snow, but I assumed it was just the usual hyperbole. Well, it did start snowing a couple of hours ago, and I already have over an inch outside my front door. Cool! We hardly ever get any here, so it's always fun to see. Right now I'm watching CNN, which is freaking out over Atlanta weather as if ( Read more... )

I live for Bob Costas commentary during the opening ceremony and other Olympic coverage. My favorite so far is when he snarked on the one Cayman Islands athlete for going to boarding school in California and now he goes to Brown. "Despite all that hard ship, he somehow persevered and now here he is today at the Olympics."

Heh. I just heard him say that he sees nothing wrong with the notoriously polite Canadians saying, "Hello. We're happy you're here. We hope to kick your butt."

I'm not fond of the new thing of how you can compete for a country as long as your mother's uncle's wife is from there, like, say, "Brent Johnson from Kazakhstan". Too opportunistic for my tastes. At least the guy you mentioned was from the Caymans!

The one Jamaican athlete is from the US but has dual citizenship cause his dad is Jamaican. Nice. Not good enough to qualify for the US team, huh? :)

I loved FNL. That show always guts me. And yes, ending with a shot of Matt's face was perfect. He's the heart of the show imo.

Feel better.

And snow in Hawaii? Wtf?

Usually there's some on the big Island on Mauna Kea--it's over 13000 feet tall, so there's usually snow in the winter. It's actually been a very mild February this year, but there's probably some leftover snow in some of the shadowed areas...

You can always tell the astronomers on a Hawaii flight, cause we're the ones bringing heavy winter gear instead of swimming trunks. I had a very confused flight attendant ask me if I was on the right flight once.

That's so cute about that confused stewardess.

You're an astronomer? How nifty.

THe funny part about the flight attendant is that we usually get the same crews over and over, so they eventually know lots of random factoids about our science.

Astronomy is definitely a fun job--I'm one of the people who gets to build instruments for telescopes, so I get to stay up all night AND use power tools (although not at the same time, cause that doesn't work out well).

This part of the world cares about Atlanta's snow! I'm kinda ticked that all it took was an inch to close the airport though - my cranky husband had to leave a day later & buy a whole new ticket. :(

Aww, sorry about that! Apparently, Hartsfield doesn't have much deicing equipment, which makes sense given how rarely we have snow and ice. :)

Makes sense. I'm from Michigan so living in El Paso has been a lesson in snow-un-preparedness. We're good at air conditioning down here though...

(And there's no need to be sorry! Between no flight, locking his keys in his car, and then me getting a flat tire, yesterday was bound to be weird.)

which is hilariously used five times in the pilot
I rewatched the pilot recently and the mileage they got out of that song cracked me up a bit. :D

Don't get me wrong -- I *love* that song -- but I still get a kick out of watching the pilot and counting down each time I hear those opening chords. :)

I actually didn't feel the win was Hollywood. Whenever I watch, I'm always thinking they'll lose, because FNL was never afraid to do that...and has done that. So I was totally 50/50 on this one. I didn't expect an automatic win like I would've with typical Hollywood fare. It could've gone either way, but I'm SOO glad it went the way it did. Not only for Coach, but also for Landry. He's had a rough time of it, the poor dear.
