Hunger Games fic: "Sister of the Bride" (1/1)

I don't have much experience writing in new fandoms -- particularly book-based ones -- but the Hunger Games universe has so much fascinating fic potential. So, instead of writing more of Kat or a 'ship fic, I decided to peek inside Prim's head during the latter half of the second book. This is a belated birthday present for taragel, who is a lovely ( Read more... )

Love it! I was just thinking early tonight about searching out some Hunger Games fic. Really interesting perspective as most of the series we really have no clue what anyone besides Katniss is thinking.

Thanks for the great read! (as usual) :)

Thank you! The very limited POV in the novels complicates matters, but it does leave quite a bit of room for exploring others' thoughts and actions. :)

I have just now put down Catching Fire. I thought, after posting how much I liked it, 'I bet there's some great fanfic out there'. I AM SO EXCITED YOU HAVE WRITTEN SOME.

It's such a great series! I have no idea what the other fic is like, but the books do present some wonderful fic opportunities. :)

OMG THG FIC FOR MEEEEEEEEEEEE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Oh Alanna I LOVES IT!!! Fiesty little growing up Prim!! FREEDOM FIGHTING GALE!!! MAMA! PEETA'S DAD!!! And of course my stoic Katniss.

They all feel so spot-on! So themselves! And it's so long. It must have taken you a long time to put this together. Awwww. I am so touched.

Sigh. I love it all, and it made me sniffly. Even though I read CF and knew what happened I still found myself tensing with Prim, worried about Katniss. Oh and the last line. PERFECT. <3 <3 <3

THANK YOU FRIEND! **HUGS**

Oh, I'm so glad you liked it! Yeah, I suppose it's long, but I only worked on it for a week or so. :) Quite easy to write.

This was one of those times where I started writing a character I barely knew, and fell in love with her in the process. I was concerned she was a bit too mature for a thirteen-year-old, but I suppose those circumstances would make her grow up very fast. That was my intended arc throughout the story. I hadn't planned to so much of Gale because, as I've mentioned before, he feels like such a cipher, but I found myself really enjoying bringing him into the story. And I thought you would like having him around. :)

Well you really made her come alive and I think she has just the right mix of naivete and grasping courage. I do think she feels 13 (even though 13 was a long time ago...). And yeah I definitely enjoyed that much Gale and I think, although he's not as fleshed out as Katniss is in the books (arguably neither is Peeta, it's very much Kat's story), I felt you got him exactly right. (And especially his one line to Prim in the woods.)

It was lovely and I'm writing a rec on my LJ right now.

Thank you so much! Yeah, she really is so sweet and, well, prim in Katniss's POV, but I liked the idea of her rising to the occasion and growing up in the process. It's her turn to be strong. :)

Thank you! She really does feel like an original character, just because we know so little of her in the books. I'm really glad that she came alive for you, so to speak. :)
