Hunger Games fic: "Sister of the Bride" (1/1)

I don't have much experience writing in new fandoms -- particularly book-based ones -- but the Hunger Games universe has so much fascinating fic potential. So, instead of writing more of Kat or a 'ship fic, I decided to peek inside Prim's head during the latter half of the second book. This is a belated birthday present for taragel, who is a lovely ( Read more... )

Ohhh, I love this, and I love your Prim voice. It's a really interesting perspective to see what's going on on the home front, and I enjoyed what you've explored here. Also, gen fic, woo! It's really hard to come by. :)

Thanks! Yeah, the books give us few clues as to what's happening outside of Katniss's purview, so I liked being able to create my own secondary plot there, especially through Prim's eyes. I have no idea what the other fic out there is like, and while 'ship fic is definitely fun, this was also really nice to write. Glad you liked it!

Oh, wistera, this is lovely. I adore Prim, and I think you've captured her and her strength beautifully here.

I say to myself: Time to step up, Primrose Everdeen.

I hope we get some of this Prim in the third book.

Aww, thank you! In the books, she's just kinda there (understandable, as it's entirely Kat's POV.) I liked the idea of her growing up and learning to be strong, just like her sister. :)

Oh so lovely. I just finished the books last weekend. Or, was it two weekends ago; the story was incredible memorable. And I think this fic is entirely in that style and memorable (except for the POV of course). Thanks for sharing!

Thank you! Writing in that style is quite a challenge, since I've never done first-person before, and everything has to be filtered through Prim's subjective POV. So I'm really pleased you found the style authentic!

I read this without the slightest clue about the books -- is that bad? -- but it was vivid and evocative and made me want to read them.

Ooh, thank you! I'd imagine that this would be really confusing if you're unfamiliar with the setting, so I'm really glad you enjoyed it despite that. Do check out the books if you're able -- they're labeled as YA, but there's a very dark, morally fascinating sensibility to them.

Oh wow! I meant to read this last night but nearly collapsed when I got out of tech...this was amazing! I especially loved getting it through Prim's POV because I don't know why but I didn't spend too much time thinking about her, but my friend and I were discussing that there needed to be some Catching Fire fic through the POV of one of the characters who was there... and Prim really is a perfect character.

I absolutely love the last line. Little Prim growing up and getting tough. Love it! :D

Thank you so much! I know what you mean about not giving Prim much thought -- she's barely there in the book (though, as much as I like Collins' writing, the *very* limited POV can be frustrating.) When writing fic about the others, you almost have to create characters out of whole cloth. But one advantage of Kat being in the Arena for half of each book is that it gives us a lot of latitude in imagining what's happening back home. :)
