A fangirl without a show.

1. What is it about school vacations that makes me want to cook and cook? Especially since the results seldom turn out well. But! Yesterday I had a strange yen to make bread, so I started poking around online for a good recipe. Despite my not being Jewish (or even really Christian anymore, for that matter), I found myself making challah! And ( Read more... )

Hey, if you want to get fangirly, there's a new Doctor Who on Saturday to look forward to. Only 3 left with DT so enjoy the ride while you can.

But yeah, I know what you mean. It's sad, and I have no idea where to pour my fannish energy anymore. I'm still working on my fic which will in its own way be my meta on the finale, but after that, I'm lost.

On a completely different note, off to check out VF's article on the Icelandic banking crisis. It's something I've been personally following and I hadn't seen this bit of press yet.

Ah, I'd forgotten about the new DW movie. Excellent. It's kinda like FNL for me: I watch and enjoy and once in a while post meta, but I don't feel any particular urge beyond that. Plus, I'm not a 'shipper there. (Not anti-ship, just not interested.) And, to be honest, the fandom in general -- not my LJ friends -- is a bit off-putting. Same reason why I'm very reluctant to get sucked back into the Jossverse. ;)

I guess I'm just sad because the fic I'm really struggling with feels like my *last* fic. Which makes sense given how long I've been with BSG, but it's still hard to accept. I'm not ready to leave yet -- especially because when I'm done with a fandom, I'm DONE -- but it really is starting to feel kinda like that. Sigh.

Pretty green socks! That yarn looks like it feels yummy. :-)

The vagina gown is hysterical. All one needs is a cake wreck to match and that party is complete. ;-)

Oh, the green yarn is SO soft. And machine-washable! Always a good thing.

I can't believe that the dress designer didn't notice that, but then some guys are really THAT clueless. ;)

The challah is beautiful! I love making it, and eating it, and you did a beauteous job on it.

Also totally in love with the socks! I covet them, especially the Baudelaires. Lace is so not my strength. I'm cranking my way through a pair of Show Off Stranded Socks that I'm kind of in love with. Tis the season for socks! (But isn't it always?)

As far as fandoms go, try looking over the ocean. There is a lot of really good genre television coming out of the UK at the moment, beyond Doctor Who. Knowing you, you'd enjoy the mental gymnastics of Life on Mars/Ashes to Ashes, and while I haven't watched the actual series, the pilot for Being Human was really good.

My husband just started working for the Census. He loves it, and it pays well, at least in our area, but you have to be comfortable talking to strangers.

Ah, that really is a cool pattern! Probably wouldn't work for me, though. My problem is that 90% of socks are designed to fit up to a size 9 or 10, tops, and my feet are an 11. I do a lot of lace just because I know it'll stretch enough to fit.

And yeah, this summer I'll have to catch up on some shows from elsewhere. I did like LoM, but not really beyond just watching and enjoying. ;) Still, I'll check out the Being Human suggestion -- thanks!

I have a fairly normal sized foot, but my calf is enormous. Makes anything taller than 3-4" problematic. And if one more person tells me to just go up a needle size, I'll strangle them.

Y'know, I've seen quite a few people mention LotS. I'm sure it's wonderful, but fantasy is just not my kind of thing at all. ;) Eh, maybe I'll tivo an ep or two to give it a fair shot, though!
