At least the flowers are pretty.

Yup, it's pollen season here in Atlanta. The stuff's so thick that you can actually see yellow tire tracks on the asphalt. My knitting group sat outside today, and it got all over my yarn. My eyes are burning so badly that I should probably just skip wearing contacts for the next week. On the plus side, the wisteria is blooming! (Should take a ( Read more... )

No, it hasn't. That's a comma splice and they are EVIL EVIL EVIL!!! *hits them with a stick* They could have at least tossed an em-dash in there. Sheesh.

Agreed. It's bad grammar, just as it always has been. :)

Okay, how the hell did I forget that it's called a comma splice? Whatever the case, it ANNOYS ME TO NO END. (And it makes me sad because these days I seem to see it everywhere, including the media.)

I was about to say that I'd be highly amused by sheep wearing glasses, but someone has already taken care of that.

Hee! Good way to put it. The rest of your post makes me sad, though, because I *do* value good grammar. I'm fine with not using it in, say, LJ posts, because I type the way I speak. The tricky part is that casual usage is fine in, well, casual situations, but transferring that to standard English usage just bothers me. My students don't bother to spell because they have spellcheck, and we've seen how many people on LJ don't bother with capitalization or proper punctuation. If everyone relies upon word processors to fix mistakes, then what will happen to grammar in the future?

The semi-colon should be everyone's friend.

Indeed. Even if people fear the semicolon, conjunctions are quite easy to use!
