Bitch session.

Today has been rather frustrating. No energy whatsoever, plus what appears to be some type of stomach illness. Ugh! I ended up crawling back into bed for a large part of the early evening. Fortunately, the worst seems to have passed. I'm also quite cheered up by these photos of Jamie at a BAFTA party today (via dryope). Wow. When I saw them, he ( Read more... )

I absolutely abhore IM or text message speak. "c u l8r" for example. In a place where the only way to identify oneself is words, are people really so lazy that they can't type out "to" instead of "2"? It drives me crazy!

I'm also not a fan of blinky decorations. I find it particularly irritating when reading fiction. Maybe it's just my mild ADD, but I can't concentrate on story if someone's various icon's are blinking at me. Why go to the trouble of writing something only to distract readers with moving images?

This is also more of a fanfic pet peeve, but good stories with sloppy details make me sad. When author's mess up basic character info (like the spelling of a character's name, or saying they have blue eyes instead of brown) but otherwise have a good story, it's jarring and unpleasant.

It really is amazing how many people use text message speak, especially all my students. I try to handwave it, but... *sigh*

And yeah, the blinky icons drive me crazy. I've gotten good at ad-blocking them, yet it's still tough.

Most of mine are formating issues that I generally don't see on LJ because I use style=mine all over the place. However.

1. A font style for someone's journal that is teeny tiny.

2. A font color that is just a hair lighter or darker than the background color, rendering it nearly invisible.

3. 1 & 2 combined together to make a generally unreadable page.

4. Random capitalization. What I mean by this is that sometimes they bother to capitalize things they should, and sometimes they don't. Sometimes this changes within the same paragraph or even sentence.

Oh, word to all the above. Drives me doolally - especially people who write long fics in teeny tiny print. I use style=mine also, but it annoys me to have to reload everything all the time.

*grrr*

Spare a thought for older flisters, people - even with reading glasses it can be a strain...

"?style=mine" is a godsend. Without it, I'd have a very hard time reading most others' posts.

2. Oh, frak. I know you're not directing this at anyone, but I know I do that all the time. I'm not sure where I picked it up. But now I'm addicted to it! That, and emoticons. I'm just paranoid about people misreading my tone, and want to be clear when I'm kidding or being self-deprecatory, which is most of the time, heh. It's not meant to be snarky, honest. I'll try not to do it anymore when I'm talking to you, though.

Hmm, pet-peeves. Well, when people make lists like you do here, only much longer, and then people respond to them the way I just did, actually, heh. (OMG, this is going to be hard!) Like, the list will be 1-45, and someone way down the page will write: "38 - Amen!" And then I have to scroll back up and back down... Not something I really have a right to complain about, since it obviously works for the two people having the conversation, but still irksome ( ... )

Hee! You don't have to self-edit for me, promise. It's just this weird thing of mine.

Also, lots of cut-tags and then not making it clear in the post what subject you're referring to where. I tend to get lost.

Indeed. Though seems like people have been getting better about that, knock on wood.

The non-spoilery posts with spoilers? Again, I think people have been getting better, if only because the spoiler-free folks will (understandably) scream when those comments show up. :)

For all my layout issues: format=light is my friend. I've made myself a cute little toolbar button and I use that baby like crazy.

I'm trying to think of more peeves, but right now I'm drawing a blank. Oh! (And this one is quite irrational:) fic/icon post links that are set on 'mode=reply'. It will not make me leave you feedback any quicker, seriously.

Hmm. I'll have to try "format=light" one of these days, though fortunately "?style=mine" works beautifully for my LJ-default layout.

I haven't seen "mode=reply" too often, thank goodness. It does sound rather pushy!

blink tags. They must be destroyed.

Oh, yes. That, and those scrolling tags where text goes across the screen. Ugh!
