Closets, "curves", ficlets, LJ nostalgia, and galacticanews.

Today's big adventure was cleaning out my closets for the first time in years. Of course, everything's a mess now, with the keepers waiting to be put away, and the losers in boxes for Goodwill. I had to keep reminding myself of my rule: "If you haven't touched it in at least six months, it must go." A pleasant surprise was that I've apparently ( Read more... )

I defintely miss the old days of LJ. I was given an invite code a few months before they went opened it up for everyone I think. But yeah, having a LJ has taken away from blogs, personal websites, fansites, etc. It's so much easier to just hit update and type in this box then it is to learn HTML.

Amen to all of that- I got an invite code only a few weeks before membership was opened, and after I got my LJ I rarely ever used HTML...my skills in that area are now sadly lacking.

Oh, yes. That and Dreamweaver pretty much un-taught me how to use HTML, beyond basic formatting tags. On the other hand, it has also enabled my profound laziness. ;)

BTW, did you write me a few weeks ago? I vaguely recall something, but my inbox is an utter mess, and I can't find anything in there. If so, then I'm so sorry for not replying!

How long ago did they do away with invite codes? I got one from a friend back in 03 if memory serves.

I'm of such a divided mind regarding my relationship to LJ. I love it for its community building. Between fandom and parenting issues, it's really become a mainstay for me. But it also isn't taken seriously in the larger blogging community, who characterize LJ as "OMG Kittens!" And given the current icon debacle in which I'm involved, I am horrified by the "customer service" and censorship issues. I can see myself continuing to read fandom and friends posts here, but I am not sure I am comfortable blogging here any more and don't plan on renewing my paid account.

Ahem. Anyhoo. I am *so* not surprised to see you get involved with galacticanews since usually, if there's news, you're where I come first!

::off to Claira's to read your ficlet du jour::

Meta would be *awesome* because I have no idea where to start looking for it in BSG!

No kidding! Back during the season, people were posting a ton of really insightful things, but not so much these days (understandable, given the looooong hiatus.) Are you interested in any particular characters? I might could find something for you to read. ;) Otherwise, your best bet is to just page through some of the older galacticanews updates....

I'll be catching up through the end of S2 this weekend, then I'll feel a little more confident about going through the backlog - I am intensely spoiler phobic, which is a dreadful illness for somebody who tends to catch up on series during the summer!

I kind of have some degree of affection for all the characters, so I'd be happy with thoughts on any of them - or on anything that's on the mythology or politics of the whole show, which fascinate me!

I've wondered how the TWOP BSG board is but have been too much of a wuss to go check it out. I take it it must have some decent content if you find stuff for galacticanews. . .

The board there is really quite excellent. It doesn't have the same in-jokey, community atmosphere as most of the other TWOP forums, so a lot of the commentary is in-depth and insightful... and on-topic. ;) The episode threads are quite good, and I'd definitely recommend the individual character folders or the relationships thread (which has been moved to "creative pursuits". If you scroll back a few months, there were some awesome discussions about various 'ships, including K/L.
