Knitting and computer issues.

1. I finished my mother's long-overdue Christmas sweater! This was to replace the first one that turned out to be too small. Here's a photo, modeled by one of my friends. The pattern is Metro, which is simple and classic and has that neat cabling along one side. I splurged on Lorna's Laces Shepherd Worsted since I didn't want to worry that it ( Read more... )

Amazingly talented with the knitting AND crocheting! Wow - I lack all skills related to creating things crafty. And I totally admire those who can. WOW!

As to not posting - I need to lure you back into the BSG fandom, hon! Everyone there misses you. Write! Write! Write!

*hugs* Glad you are doing well! K :>D

Thanks! I could say that all the knitting keeps me out of trouble, but that's obviously not true. ;) And yeah, I do miss being involved in fandom (and my friends there!), but I can't seem to get my brain back in that mode. Alas!

I totally know what you mean regarding fandom. I can "feel" that I'm nearing some completion for myself with BSG. I find my stories growing more and more AU. And I actually just pulled a book-length one off altogether as I realized it was about 80% non-fandom related and I decided to just rewrite it for my own use. Strange but true.

Nonetheless, I hope you still know how much your BSG writing is admired and feted! Hope you share more of your writing in whichever venue you choose. I know I'm looking forward to reading it!!!

*hugs* K. :>D

Open Office in on version 3.0 now. I use it for all my word processing and spreadsheets. I don't know how well the Power Point works, but for word processing, it's pretty sweet.

I completely agree with this. It's basically the older version of MS Word.

Hmm. Can I save in Office 2007/10 format? If so, that would be helpful because I could do some of my school work at home.

Do you mean can you save as a word 2007 doc file? Because you can, that's what I do.

Any time I see one of your knitting projects, I am so impressed. You are very talented.

Thanks! As I told my parents tonight, though, I'm mostly just good at following instructions. ;)

I beg to differ. I don't care how good the instructions were, I could never make that!

The latest version of Open Office seems to run better than the older versions so you may want to give it another try.

With Twitter and *my* LJ I have scrolling issues using Firefox on the new computer. Since other pages load fine and I can scroll through fine I'm assuming it's new Twitter and the LJ style I'm using that's causing issues with my computer processing them.

Turns out that it looks like all I needed to do was unplug my cable modem and restart it. Pages are loading just fine now. Go figure!

Yeah, it could be the style. Do you have any add-ons like NoScript? I'm still getting used to the Vaio's touchpad. It's a little *too* sensitive, especially when I keep my thumb on the left button (but not touching the actual pad). Which is a problem since that's how I usually keep my hands when I'm using a laptop.

I'm always envious of your knitting skills -- it's one of those things I'd love to know how to do, but I never end up taking the time to sit down and learn.

I must admit that I spend a lot more time on Twitter and Facebook lately (mainly Twitter) than I do on LJ, but I think that has more to do with my having less free time in general, so it's much easier to post a quick update than spend the time it would take to sit down and compose a longer blog post. However, I do agree that there is "something to be said for writing," and I have guilt that I don't do more blog writing and fiction writing.

I'd give Open Office another try -- from the time I got my Mac last spring, until my managed to get my hands on a free copy of the new Office for Mac suite a few weeks ago, I was using Open Office, and aside from having to get used to where things were as compared to the MS Office I was using at work before, it wasn't bad.

Thanks! The nice thing about knitting is that even if you just learn the two basic stitches, you can get some gorgeous yarn and make something simple like a scarf. :)

I know what you mean about writing. Heck, I haven't written fic in months, and I really *miss* it even though I have no real ideas to work with. Alas. But yeah, Twitter's good for being off-the-cuff. Actual writing is haaaaaaard. *g*
