Blogging THG.

Following links this evening led me to Mark Reads. Apparently, he ran a popular blog in which he read all of the Harry Potter books, and now he's taking on The Hunger Games. He's posting about each chapter as he reads, snarking about various aspects but genuinely enjoying it. Really interesting stuff!

Also, as I typed this, taragel gave me a heads-up ( Read more... )

I want so badly for Matt Lauria to be cast as Peeta.

Oooh. As I've said way too many times, Jesse Plemons is my dream Peeta because he fits the physical description and personality to a "T". But since he's too old, Matt Lauria could definitely work. Plus, he's quite good looking but not a Pretty Boy, unlike all the other young actors who've been mentioned. (Don't they remember that Collins describes him as almost white-blond and "stocky" and not ugly but not conventionally attractive?)

Do you know how much they pay the non union background for The Walking Dead? I'm curious if they're hosing people because they know they can get zombie fans to basically volunteer. I know it's a SAG project so they have at least 25 union bg getting paid 139 for 8 hours, but I'm curious if it's the usual rate of 85 for 10 for non union or a lower rate.

I also think the ads for a "Stagger-On" contest is hilarious. I love it when tv shows have these big competitions for people to get background spots. Now if they gave you a line then that'd be a big deal! That's an under 5 which a nice big pay check and it can make you eligable for union status in certain cases. Of course that only really matters if you're an actor. I doubt a zelous fan would want to join SAG.

My flist has convinced me to start reading THG. I have it on hold at the library. The first copy that is returned is MINE. I glanced at the casting but alas I'm too old to play 16. I could definitely do 20 and maybe 18, but 16 is pushing it so no auditioning for me.

Sorry, I have absolutely no idea, but your comments are fascinating! I love pondering the behind-the-scenes stuff like that, even though I know almost nothing about how that part of the industry works.

I love the idea of winning the "Stagger-On" contest, though I'm annoyed that they'd save money on me because they wouldn't have to pay for my travel expenses. :)

And have fun with THG! It definitely has problems, but it's such a fun page-turner with a wonderful, kickass protagonist.

I pay my rent by doing background work inbetween auditions in NYC. I've worked on almost every major project that's filmed in the city. I'm curious about how the industry works in Atlanta. Heck I'm curious about Portland (where they film shows like Leverage) I mean, you can't have a huge base of actors in Portland. You'll have some, but not like New York where EVERYONES an actor and almost everyone is a union actor. I'm curious if they find they can hose the non union actors into really unfair payrates. You occationally get a casting notice for people who want to pay non union bg 25 dollars for a 14 hour day. Or my favorite, they want nudity and a lot of it, but they can't pay (but it's a great "opportunity ( ... )

interesting, i'll have to look and see if that notice is in any of the usual places.

Hey, if they shoot here that makes it easier to stalk. In all likelihood they,d film way south or east in eastbumfuck. Plenty of locals that look desolate and/or like the apocalypse already happened.

Casting notice doesnt specify ethnicity at all. It reads a little strange, not that I'm an expert in the least.

Yeah, they'd probably have to film the District 12 and Arena parts up in the mountains, so that aspect of the GA/NC shooting makes sense. Unless they used Midtown, though, I can't imagine how they would make Atlanta look like the glittery futuristic Capitol. Could be interesting, if that casting notice is indeed true.
