> It is... not Faith's voice, as was pointed out to me, but it is, I hope, Faith, in some real sense
A lot of the ideas etc. felt very true, it was just a poetic omniscient narrator, except that it was written in a way that told the reader this was Faith's voice. So while I validate my opposition on the rape issue, I stand by my criticism. But I do think it very much was Faith in a lot of ways. And I'm v. impressed by your degree of thinking in this fic. (And I never did mention the first time around that I appreciate that you don't hate me for my criticism. I almost apologized in my original comment for being so blunt -- I would have couched it far more if you weren't a close friend whom I trusted to not take it wrong. Though you're still free to call me a heinous bitch.)
I read the crit, I got mad, I cried, I stepped away from Fireworks for a couple of hours (and watched "Superstar," perhaps), I replied, and I got over it. I still like you.
And, yes. It's a valid point. I'm glad it worked for most people; I wish it had worked for you, and after three years of writing fanfic, I still struggle with balancing my writer-voice (whatever that might consist of, since, other than irresistable rhymes and alliteration and sentence-level palindromes, I'm not sure what my style consists of) with the unique voices of the characters. And heck, it's a problem I had when I wrote/write pro/original fic, too. I'm all, "Look, WORDS! POETRY" when it makes little sense for the characters.
So yes, thanks for the crit, although it stung. :)
I do feel bad that I so upset you, and feel like I should have couched it more. ('Cause really, don't I have _more_ obligation to my friends than to strangers?)
I wish it had worked for me, too, 'cause I love you and for the most part love your fic, and I love loving your fic. (And seeing people laud something you don't think is great is extra-weird when the author is a close friend.)
I know my characters all tend to talk like me, but I'm boring so it's less noticeable (and possibly only noticeable to me -- or maybe just no one cares enough to call me on it). For the most part I tend to think your character voices are v. good and I like your narrators. I mean, like I said, I usually love your fic.
