We tend to ship those characters we like the most, and the characters we love we tend to ship. And I'm not saying slashers are misogynistic. Just that they're, yanno, slightly less fond of Weir than het fen are.
Yeah, this is what I kind of figured. I'd be really interested to see how Weir would do against Teyla though -- het fans love Weir, but do they also love Teyla? Are slash fans more likely to also 'ship Teyla, but not Weir? (If I wasn't so in love with Teyla, I probably wouldn't be reading any het in SGA.) Do het fans who love Weir want to see Weir/Teyla?
Because now we actually have two female leads to compare! Still not Buffy, but better than SG-1 at least.
Though I should note that there are far more exclusive slashers than exclusive het fen. There were also a lot more het fen than slashers, period.
The first sentence doesn't surprise me at all. But the second does! Are there a LOT of het fen? (That is, someone actively 'shipping Weir with a guy.) I don't think I have many on my flist -- just you and Nos, probably. But then I don't have a ton of SGA fans on my flist to begin with. But sga_flashfic, which is my primary link to the SGA fandom, is skewed toward slash and gen, moreso than het. (Though we've had a couple of very nice Teyla het stories lately! Bwee!!)
According to my poll, 16 het vs. 32 slash (you can see this data for yourself, though not the correlations.) So, okay, more slashers... but the prevelance of slash in fandom and on LJ in particular has been discussed rather a lot.
And I have... ladybeth ships McWeir, and mylittleredgirl and anr ship Shep/Weir... um... some? And sage_theory, I suppose, but she also ships McShep... *shrug*
Of course, it could be the characters in themselves aswell, not the fact that they are women. ;) I don't love SHeppard either so I don't slash him...
Had you put Sam or Janet on the show instead of Weir and Teyla, I would've been more optimistic. Of course, I have to watch more episodes to truly have an opinion about the show. ;)))
But this far, I don't like the women on the show, but I like Weir more than Teyla. And I don't like Sheppar particularly...or Rainbow Sun... In fact, I like McKay, Beckett and Zelenka. ;)

Which is why I raised an eyebrow. So what you mean is that there are more slashers than het fen, period. Should've realised it was a typo, duh! *g*

And yes, I will watch more SG-A.
