My adventures with Hildegard*

So, it's been 2 months since I got three pounds lopped off my breasts, and I am now offcially allowed into underwire bras. So I trotted off to Nordstrom (I suppose it is technically possible to get fitted somewhere else, but they are usually pretty good). I lucked into the fitter who has a prosthetics sub-specialty, so my scars were no big deal to ( Read more... )

The width observation is an important detail. Good to know.

Oh, I'll be going bra shopping every couple months for the forseeable future.

I like Nordstroms, especially for bras. They tend to have a decent selection in my size (32D-DD, depending on the cut and style) and fitters who actually know what they are doing.

I've had some success over the years with finding cute bras from Wacoal, and further success in finding cute bras that are one band size up and altering them to fit at home. I've got nothing on the cute and affordable front, as affordable seems to stop at C cup, but you can get good deals sometimes at the Nordstrom Outlet stores if you're lucky and willing to hunt through rack after rack in search of the right size.

Oh! And at maternity stores, sometimes. there seems to be a trend toward the more attractive and flattering in maternity styles, and they stock sizes that no one else does.

Ooh, that's a bitch of a size!

Wacoal was my old standby. This one is a Elomi.

Oh yeah, it totally is. It sort of underscores my constant bitch that clothing manufacturers do not believe that petite women have curves. I'm still on the quest for my own personal unicorn: a black strapless underwire bra that fits properly, stays up, gives appropiate cleavage for evening wear, and contains no latex.

Also, while I support my less-endowed sisters in their access to bras that perform feats of engineering, I'd really like it if more manfacturers would drop the pushup elements in cups over size C. I just don't need the help, thanks. ;)

I'm curious - what procedure did you have? My experience was almost the opposite of yours - much less width and volume, but not much less projection. (I had a "superior pedicle" procedure w/o lipo.)

I still positively *lust* after cheap-and-frivolous bras. Post-surgery, I was extremely disappointed to figure out that they're pretty much in the B-cup and smaller sizes
.

I think that, in general, surgeons like to wait until at least the 6-month mark for revisions, and many prefer to wait an entire year. So by the time you could have a revision, you will be better able to decide.

For what it's worth, I wish I had taken my surgeon up on her offer of a revision. OTOH I'm pretty sure I could still lose enough tissue to qualify for a second insurance-financed surgery, if I continue to want those cute bras ;-)

Aw, I'm sorry the cute bras are still elusive. You've been to figleaves.com, right? If there's any pretty bra in that size, it'll be there.
