The UCC got in a lot of trouble earlier in the year because the IRS though that having a prominent church member speak at the General Synod might have violated the church's tax-exempt status. We sing "Lift Every Voice and Sing" around here all the time. It's one of resolute's mother's favorite songs, and they sang it in church all the time in res's childhood.

It is hard to sing, though, especially if you're not prepared for the key change.

For some reason, it makes me happy that the Baader-Meinhoff phenomenon has a Wikipedia entry. And that entry references Brian Townsend "of the Mississippi Townsends."

I dissolved in a fit of giggles.

And yeah "LEVAS"=Black National Anthem=subtle political commentary.

Yes, it's probably only funny to people who read the Pioneer Press, but to us, it's very funny.

It is so cool that your church sang this. I've heard it referred to as the Black National Anthem more than once (in documentaries, and other places) but I've never heard the whole thing. Must remedy that.
