I am writing the worship for next Sunday, the first Sunday of Advent. You can always tell when I have company in from out of town, because I go radio-silent. LT was out this weekend to help me do prep for sil's mom to visit, and to hang out.

Friday I worked from home so we could kibitz. She says it's exactly like talking to me on IM, except I swear more in person, when I am muttering at my software.

We sang "Come Thou Fount", which is one of my favorites. And we talked about the Luther/Zwingli conflict (Reformashun theologian smakdown). And Zwingli called Luther a cannibal, because of that little disagreement about transubstatiation and Zwingle is a consubstantiation guy. So that was all awesome. And then we got a reading from Rumi.

The UCC got in a lot of trouble earlier in the year because the IRS though that having a prominent church member speak at the General Synod might have violated the church's tax-exempt status. Last night, sil picked me up from work, we collected the Pook, and then he got Baz from school and I flung some dinner at people and chucked a whole bunch of stuff into my sewing bag so I could go sew with the church ladies. Most of you who have been reading this for any amount of time know that I have been having a hard time finding my feet in the social scene out here. Having kids just makes that harder, and that's the way it is. But one of the parts that's been going really well has been my church life. Today, the kids and I went to church and whoever picked the hymns was in a traditional mood. Amazing Grace, Faith of Our Fathers, and Be Thou My Vision. Only it was mildly re-worded. (scowl) I am all happy to sing entirely new words to hymns I know, but mild alteration screws me up and ruffles me. In this hymnal, it is "Be Now My Vision". Instead ( Read more... )
