So I had this horrible nightmare last night in which I was storing my stuff, and possibly also staying, at kamianya's place, and managed to piss her off horribly by talking about Hebrew translation while she was at work at Dunkin' Donuts, which apparently got her nearly fired or something, and then she wouldn't talk to me at all and I was trying to get my ( Read more... )

Delaware keeps coming up in unexpected places these days. First in a Toni Morrison novel, now in your nightmares.

Such crap generally does sneak up on you and blackjack you when you're least expecting it.

Yay insurance!

It may be ingrained in my mind as "random far away place to drive" as a result of Intercon Midatlantic, which was about halfway down Delaware and which I did by car for the weekend, going via Bennington. Craaaazy road-trip.

That it does. But insurance makes up for it. :D

My new nightmare: doing something random that makes people stop talking to me.

Um, like joining a cult? Just sayin'.

Actually, I was thinking more like going out to dinner at IHOP, or running out of time to do the dishes. If somebody thought "omg she's joining a cult" and stopped talking to me because of my OTO involvement, I would be rather disappointed--given the misperception involved--but it would be something I could understand as an issue, not something random.

I can't tell, though, if you're expressing said opinion yourself or simply pointing out that other people might express it. I did, however, hit Wikipedia and run the OTO (or at least our local body, as I can only judge it on my direct interactions) past several cult-warning-sign checklists, and it came out with pleasantly uncultish scores. It's part social circle, part intellectual exchange, part small religious body; it does not isolate and control its members in any of the ways indicated by cult warning signs.

Please do let me know if this is a conversation that needs to be continued.
