Requisite Utopia reaction post

Jun 17, 2007 18:23

Yeah, I don't do reaction posts often, and most of my immediate reaction to this episode consisted of screaming like a little girl for the next half hour. (To my credit, the rest of my watching group did so as well.)

Two things, both cut for spoilers:

Fun with BDSM subtext, Doctor goes meta, and a few other random comments. )

...was that just me?

NO! No, it wasn't! Still freaking out about this episode. The very fact of Ten and Jack interacting is enough to make me bounce around, and that sex radiation chamber scene was so. damn. hot.
'Jack' with that tone and that look on the Doctor's face... I could watch that over and over.

...I have watched it over and over. *is dork*

Glee! The enunciation of a name that spawned a thousand fics! XD Though it's as much Jack's reaction, too...just that moment of instinctive, absolute attention.

I totally reacted the same way after watching Utopia...then proceeded to watch it 5 more times over the course of today.
But as for the freezing in time....there is a short summary on imdb as to the next episode, which makes it seem like the freeze isn't going to happen...or at least not that we see.

Yeah, that was a seriously great episode. XDDD And hi! Good to see you in the eljay lands!

That's kinda a relief. I don't want Rusty to be that mean to Jack! ;)

HOLY CRAP that was your first episode? Wheeeeeeee!

I strongly recommend just watching the whole series of both. (Well, skip episode 9 of Torchwood, according to everybody, and there are some skippable episodes in the second season of Who.) The first season of Who gives you a wonderfully plotted story arc, and the Ninth Doctor, who is broody goodness, and Jack; the second season gives you the beginnings of Ten, and some amazing individual episodes even though the over arc is, er, nonexistent. Torchwood is really, really uneven, but when it's good it's good, and it gives you more Jack and his very cute Welsh fuckbuddy (though not as much as you might expect) and a lot of wonderfully screwy other characters. And the third season of Who, well, sets up this, and the two-parter a few episodes back was also mindblowingly good ( ... )

It was most definitely not just you. The Doctor's entire conversation with the Master was very much 'but it's different now, they're all dead, there's only two of us left (also, I'm more evil than I used to be) so there are no obstacles to our very wrong and yet very hot relationship anymore!'

God bless Tennant for the way he delivered both 'Master...I'm sorry' (the line that's hopefully sprawning Ten/Master fic as we speak) and that 'Jack' you mentioned. I definitely got the same vibe you did from the latter exchange. And as someone mentioned, the scene in which the Doctor hands his coat to Jack means that Jack is the Doctor's Ianto. Hee.

On Doctor Who, there is no such thing as subtext. *grins*

...srsly, this is the Doctor's Ex-Boyfriends Episode. And, all matters of plot aside, the Jack in my head is becoming convinced that the single best way to deal with this is to plunk the Doctor and the Master down and say, 'okay, guys, JUST GET IT OVER WITH AND SHAG ALREADY. And if you need somebody to gang up on because you can't resolve your macho dominance issues, HI, I'M AN IMMORTAL TEMPORAL ABOMINATION. You'd probably need me to be. Have at!'

(While Martha listens at the door in bemused fascination.)

It goddamned better be spawned Ten/Master fic! I haven't seen any yet. Though a lot of folks may be just waiting to see how things pan out...I know I'm hesitant to throw my lot in with any particular bunny until after the whole season's aired.

And yeah, I think the Doctor's got more in common with the Master than ever, and I think Rusty's going to be suitably aware of that (particularly given Family of Blood). Which admittedly will probably just escalate that particular sort of bitchfight; but it'll be fun to watch!

This is clearly the best resolution. Less collateral damage, and everyone gets to work out their issues. Brilliant. XDDD

I've got a couple of Ten/Master ideas myself, but am currently too daunted by old school. Will need to spend some time reading up on old school Master first, I think. And wait for plot developments.

The Doctor as he is now is standing just on the line that separates him and the Master, in my mind, which makes me gleeful at the thought of their chess match in the next two episodes. God, Simm and Tennant haven't even had a scene together yet.

When is that scene?

I've been poking around in your Who tag (not to make that sound dirty?) and, though it is many weeks after the fact, just wanted to add a hell yes to your reading of that scene. The subtext (and text, man) in the whole three episodes has been ridiculous.

That is all.
