*glee* It's really quite wonderful, isn't it? We get so used to seeing the dumb/cute/silly Jin characterizations, etc. It makes me very happy to see him written as a human being. And also, more true to his age! I think it's easy to forget how old he is now.
But my favorite thing is her atypical and non-cliché characterization of Jin. This is a Jin I rarely see, and I find it very refreshing.
I think one of my biggest pet peeves is when people write Jin as this dumb, stupid character. I think perhaps it might have been ok to write him that way, say, two years ago but he's matured and he's grown so much in the last few years. In fact I'd say he's more complex than Kame is-in a way they've swapped places.
Oh man I love meta discussions. I wish there were more of them.

Of course I agree with this, but to expand on it, I'm not a fan of any character being written as a collection of fannish clichés. Personally, if I can't write beyond the clichés, then there is no point for me to write that character at all.
However, this is my own personal taste. People write (and read) fanfic for lots of reasons, and some people enjoy certain clichés in their fanfic - and that's fine. It's just not my preference, so when I see how acchikocchi chooses to show us an often-heavily-stereotyped character like Jin in a completely different light, it makes my day. :)

Hmmm, I'm not sure I 100% agree, but I definitely think that Jin is a very complex character (far more complex than fandom often seems to indicate!), and so is Kame, and so is Yamapi, Takki, etc. To me, they all are - it really comes down to how much we know about them, and how much (and what) we are permitted to know. The more

I'm not either and I think that's why I'm so wary about most Akame fics-too many people write them as stereotypes. I definitely agree with you.
Hmm I think on the one hand Kame will always be complex because he has so many layers and different personna's, but on the one hand Jin is incredibly private and I think whilst he's more open about how he feels and his opinions, there's a lot more going on with him than we realise. But as you say, we can only read and see so much!
And there actually is a wealth of info floating around (even in translation) - but it takes time and effort to track it all down, absorb it, and then find ways to incorporate it into fic so that it becomes part of the accepted canon.
There really is. It's just a shame that there isn't a post available or time to put it all together!

Well, hang on to all your links when you find them (to translations, etc.), because someday there will be, and those links will come in very handy - there's no way that one person could do it all on their own, so it will almost definitely have to be a group effort of some kind. :)
And going back to Jin, I actually am so much more fond of him after his hiatus - it gave him a depth and complexity that I'd only had hints of before, and while his absence really hurt KAT-TUN, still, I feel like it allowed all of them to grow and develop in ways they probably wouldn't have if he'd never left.
Perhaps it's slightly narcissistic to hover over this post but I can't help wanting to tell people thank you when they say nice things about my writing, so. Thank you very much -- it's especially gratifying to hear this from someone who's moved on. :)
My heart broke a little for Jin there. T_T And then I ended up sobbing at Mer and she consoled me by telling me that to speculate on the fact that she didn't put in Kame. aslkjfdsf. I am so easy. :(

I'm sure it's bad form to reply to a comment that isn't directed at you, but -- thank you very much. :)

:D Re-reading this fic makes me very happy! I'm so glad to read stories that make me feel something strong, and this one definitely did. :)
