Shingo Mama is FANTASTIC and absolutely believable as the grieving, dedicated father. I suspect that you might like this one, and I sincerely hope that you do because it's THAT GOOD. It has all the ingredients for a heartbreaker: tender family story plus tender romance with a rather dark shadow hanging over everything...
RE: Honey & Clover - I wanted to like this one a lot, butI saw a lot of similarities between it and Orange Days in how it set up the group of friends and introduced the outsider, and I guess that's sort of what's making me ambivalent - it feels too familiar and not original enough, I suppose. I love that they're all a group of artsy types, though - that is refreshing, and I loved so much to see Morita overwhelmed by Hagumi's painting.
I should not be surprised to hear that you loved Bara no Nai Hanaya as much as I did and even picked up on the same things I did (particularly about Shizuku). :D I literally am in the middle of watching the second episode (I paused the file to read your entry) and yeah, ten minutes in, it's stil as wonderful as the first. :)
Hachimitsu to Kuroobaa however, is struggling to keep me. :( It's suffering from the same fate that Hanazakari no Kimitachi e is which is really too bad if anything else.
Bara no nai Hanaya is much love, and I'm so grateful that Love Song is doing the subs because their subs ROCK.
Re: Honey & Clover - as I just told kitsune714, there's nothing objectionable about the drama, but I do sort of have this "been there, done that" feeling. I'll give it some time, though - however, this one won't be a priority for me to watch unless it picks up.
Eeee, you are watching Bara no Nai Hanaya! I totally meant to second nihongofrancais' recommend it during our last conversation but somehow I kept getting distracted. ;) The opening sequence alone had me in love. ♥ I'm downloading the second episode right now and very much hoping it will live up to the first one. :)
I still haven't seen the first episode of Honey & Clover but your opinion seems to be the prevailing one. It's a shame, because I love Toma and Narimiya Hiroki so I want it to be great, but... And you're absolutely right about Hagu's image being straight from the manga, and I didn't like it there, either. She was pretty much my least favorite character, actually. XD;;
Yes, yes, I had totally planned to watch Bara no Nai Hanaya all along - I was only waiting for a subbed version to be available. In fact, I'd been checking for it with great anticipation since it was first aired. :) When the drama was first announced, I was very intrigued, especially to see how Shingo would pull off this role, and I've been rewarded tremendously.

Yeah, that's exactly it. But it reminds me too much of Orange Days, so I'm less excited than I'd hoped. It's not bad - it's just not great...yet. (haha, damned by faint praise, eh?)
Bara no nai Hanaya is just wonderful. I really can't wait for the next episode to be released! :D It's so. . .dark, and I really didn't expect that when I read the synopsis. XD As for Hachikuro though. . . I dropped it. ):

Me, neither. The darkness and the mystery is making me like it more - although I would have been perfectly fine if this was just a family drama about Eiji and Shizuku, because the two of them alone are AMAZING.
Hot Fuzz is absolutely wonderful. In a way it surprised me, because I was expecting it to be funny but not to be that clever. I also loved how it made fun of the English Village ideal. I don't know if you've seen a British crime series called "Midsommer Murders", but that deals with mysterious happenings in idyllic English villages and "Hot Fuzz" definitely spoofs that. Hee.
I know of Midsommer Murders, although I've never seen it, and yes, I can absolutely see how they were spoofing not only that one, but also other British countryside crime series (I'm thinking of ones like Hetty Wainthrop, too). It was such a hilariously fun movie, that although I watched it as a rental, I'm definitely planning to buy it now. If for nothing else but that I want to watch the "Fuzz Facts" version again, and I want to watch it with the commentary, too.
