A traditional Christmas day lunch in Bologna, Italy has a few requisite elements: Bolognese tortellini in brodo (tiny pasta purses filled with delicious meat float in a golden homemade broth), followed by lesso, which is a kind of beef boiled with carrots, celery and onion. The broth produced from the boiling is served with the first course ( Read more... )

That looks good. I'll have to remember this so if I ever learn to cook, I can try it out. XDDD

It's very delicious, in my opinion! And it doesn't require any special knowledge of cooking if you have a food processor - all you do is clean everything as I described and put it all in the food processor. A few minutes later, the salsa verde is done, you add your seasonings (pepper, salt) and then the oil, and you're done!

Also making the lesso is pretty easy, too - you can cook it while you're doing other things. If you make any of these, I hope you enjoy! :D

Oooh, I'm glad you like the look of the food in this post! :D Italian food often is very healthy because even fatty foods like some kinds of meat and cheese are eaten sparingly and balanced with a lot of vegetables. And generally speaking, people place a pretty high priority on the quality of food (much like the Japanese culture does) and so people try to eat the best kind of foods they can - not so much processed food, and more things that are made from good ingredients in the home. Although that is changing (I hope it doesn't change too fast!).

ETA: I should point out that I am only talking about Italian food in Italy because as it has spread throughout the world it has changed a lot. For example I wouldn't say that American Italian food is healthy at all - in fact, it's the opposite. People drown their pasta in sauce and load it with very fatty cheeses (like mozarella) and meats and they forget all about the vegetables.

Very very pretty dearie! Your pictures are so gorgeous. I don't eat red meat but loved the photos and maybe can make it for a more carnivorous guest...heehee. By the way I had the nearly exact same table cloth last Christmas, funny. Bravo on using the mezzaluna...keep it out school girl! I have to invest in one someday. By the by Nigella is so cool, Kelly loves her too.

XOXO

Thank you very much, honey! :) You know I don't really use my mezzaluna too much because I'm much more proficient with a chef's knife, but there are some tasks that the mezzaluna is perfect for, and I thought that it was appropriate to bring it out for the salsa verde. :)

Kisses, love. I received your wonderful package this weekend, and THANK YOU! I was so touched to receive that book (YES I REMEMBER IT!) and of course we always love Pocky, and the TRUFFLES! I've never splurged to buy truffles before so Nic and I are already anticipating what dish we shall use them for - I think that we will serve them shaved over a risotto, which is a classic truffle presentation. I can't thank enough, my darling! :)

*a big squeeze for you*

LOL, you didn't know I could cook? Food is one of my favorite topics, and I love to cook! (as my food tag will prove) :) This particular meal is pretty amazing, I must say. The bolognese Italians really know how to eat well.
