The thing about having to quit one's job after getting married to a guy is still the norm especially when it comes to office jobs. But when a woman is in a relatively "higher" position--owns business, professional ( ... )

I understand that it's cultural for Japanese women to give up their jobs when they marry, but my main reason for being puzzled with Itoshi Kimi e is because her friends and family seemed to think there was something wrong with her giving up her job as a doctor to marry Shunsuke (they kept asking her questions like "is it really all right/okay with you?") - the only way this makes sense is if it is as nihongofrancais described, that Shiki's friends and family know her passion for medicine and for pursuing her career, so they want to make sure that she's really sure she's ready to give all that up to marry Shunsuke.

To me, the way it came across in the drama, however, is that they thought she would be giving up her job because of his illness, which is definitely a different thing. And THAT is what bothered me - while I'm aware of the "give up your job when you marry" ideal, I wasn't aware that there was a "give up your job to take care of person going blind" requirement ( ... )

oh winterspel, i've been meaning to comment since your first post about the solar decathlon, because i happened to see a short report on tv! when they said it was in washington DC i immediately thought of you, and wondered if it was something you and nic would have liked to attend. lo and behold, your lovely pictures of it showed up the very next day on your journal! :D i think the report mentioned that the german team's house won the competition, but all of them looked truly spectacular, and something to aspire towards... :)

hooray for sapuri, and your breathtakingly lovely ficlets about yuya/kame and clementines~! i can't wait to see kame's new drama.

also, my thoughts and prayers are with yours and nic's grandmas, respectively~~~♥

please continue to stay warm and well in this holiday season, winterspel!

Hey, I dig the birds-on-poles shots! I have a bunch of these shots, too, but I rather like the angles you've gotten here.

I'd put my camera on a tripod, set up the shot, and then make a really loud noise so they'd fly away and I could catch them just as they've taken off en masse. Never worked too well -- I was either too slow on the shutter or just not annoying enough to get the birds to fly off!
