I am so glad you loved it. It's a quiet movie that deserves to be better known, IMO.

Thank you for a beautiful post about a beautiful movie.

I'm so glad you liked the post. :) I hope more people will watch it now that we've all talked about it so much - you're absolutely right, it definitely deserves much more attention than it got.

It's a film that stays with you, and I really love films that do that.

It truly was beautiful - one of the prettiest films I've seen in recent memory! :) I would like to read the book now, too.

I am so glad you liked this film, one of the most beautiful films, in visual part and in soul of the film too. Have you read the book?

The cinematography and the landscapes were truly breathtaking, but the director didn't lose the intimacy in the film, which was a wonderful balance. No, I haven't read the book, but I definitely want to read it now. :)

i'm putting this in my to watch list, so am skipping your review for now. :) i think when this came out, it either got overshadowed by the bigger, more publicized movies, so even if i wanted to see it (as judging by the trailer, it looked sooo good), i just couldn't keep up - with all the movies that came out !

Great review :) And what an awesome picspam. Do you mind if I use them to make icons? I will of course credit ^^

I loved The Painted Veil 'cause it was very real, and it touched me on so many levels. I also liked how (despite it being a sad/romantic movie) it manages to be quite humourous >> ie. when Kitty got turned down by the "Mother Superior" the first time, and Walter said he had to shut down another access to water in the village, Kitty commented "Well, I guess we're both useless then. Something in common. At last." I totally laughed at that ^^

Of course you can use the caps! All my screencaps are free to share for whatever you want to use them for, no credit is necessary unless you want to let others know where they can find them, too. In case you want them, I zipped all the original, unsized caps (including ones I did not post) into a .rar file for you. You can download it hereI agree - the film did function on several different levels. It was of course about the relationship between these two people, but also about the relationship between China and the West, and about life and death and engineering and finding solutions to terrible solutions and finding beauty and joy and unexpected places, about forgiveness and redemption, and oh, lots of other things. It was funny and uplifting as much as it was sad and romantic ( ... )

Thank you so much for uploading the caps! I appreciate it very much :) I like to credit people for their work so I'll definitely credit your caps ^^

And I agree with everything you said about the movie. The cinematography (or the locations in which the film were shot) was exquisite. This may sound cheesy but some parts just took my breath away :)

And yeah, Waddington & the girl were really unique. It was so sweet when Kitty saw them together that night, and you can tell just how much she was yearning for the same thing with Walter ^^
