N and I finished watching (well, in my case, rewatching for the 3rd time) BBC's Bleak House series this weekend. I'm really glad to say that N loved it, maybe even as much as I love it, and that he was genuinely regretful that it was over (our taste in tv is often quite different, so I am always gleeful when we both like the same thing). We'd been ( Read more... )

I adored Bleak House. Even Dickens' silly names didn't seem silly somehow. And Gillian Anderson is fabulous in historical pieces. I cry for her in The House of Mirth.

So is Nicola still there? Or was this something you watched together a while ago and are just now posting about? I hope it's the former, needless to say.

Dickens' silly names always crack me up. Miss Flite and her birds! Heee! And of course I agree with you on Gillian Anderson - she really was wonderful in The House of Mirth.

Yes, Nicola is still here! We don't know when he will leave, so I'm just enjoying it while it lasts. :)

I was interested in the Bleak House you speak of dear one. Where might I be able to see it other than the broadcast? Is it available for sale? I am ashamed to say I never did get to see North and South completely. I will have to get it to check it out. I think I would love it. However as School starts today with two classes I am not sure I will ever have a free moment again till the flowers come back home heehee. I can always find time for some great drama who am I fooling? By the way the boy in the middle of that pic is sooo lovely! I hope to hear from you soon and that you and N are very well... love to you both!
XOXO
Nicole

Hello darling! Bleak House is out on DVD, so you can rent or buy it. I think it might even be showing on PBS right now - I think I noticed it recently. I recommend that you finish North & South because it's fabulous (of course I hope you're watching the BBC miniseries and NOT the Patrick Swayze civil war mini which is something completely different)

We are both well, and send our love to you and M. :) I hope that school goes well for you, my dear. *big hugs*

I have now seen an hour of Byakkotai. It looks so very good. Only wish I could understand what they're saying.

And that picture of Pi, Ryo and Uchi.... ♥ it.

I had to dl Byakkotai just so I could see what it looked like, and I'm glad I did, but I am going to wait for the subs to actually watch it, too. The beginning is just fabulous.

I LOVED 'North and South'. I wasn't quite so taken with 'Bleak House', but that was more because it isn't my favourite story - the format of the programme was brilliant.
'North and South' was the reason I started watching the awful new version of 'Robin Hood' the BBC are doing *cough*Richard Armitage dressed from head to toe in leather*cough*, but I couldn't watch it beyond the first 4 episides.

Ooh! Do you know what I love about that photo of Yamapi and Ryo and Uchi? Ryo's hand is resting on Uchi's shoulder, and that looks like a familiar gesture - but the way he's standing gives me the impression it's Yamapi he's being possessive of.

YAY! Another North & South fan! Excellent. I'd never read Bleak House, so I had no idea of what to expect other than the usual Dickensian things, which is what I got, certainly, but I guess the acting and direction just grabbed me despite the story. I always say that if I fall in love with the characters, I can love anything.

I stayed away from Robin Hood despite the promise of Armitage in leather...sounds like it was a good idea.

I love this. :)
