A few things...

1. dangermousie shared a new comm the other day for dorama discussion: dorama_chat. I agree that there doesn't really seem to be any good central place for people to talk about doramas on LJ, since the existing comms are fairly dead. Perhaps this one will see a little more activity? It would be nice..

2. koalathebear wrote a very nice post today called Love in 3 different languagesRead more... )

Doramas. I liked the manga Mars and was looking for an anime of it. There wasn't one, but it turned out there was a live-action version. So I went to ebay (that was before I knew about dling and similar) and bought it and loved it.

But it was a one-off thing. I wasn't going to look for more. Then I ended up loving 'Hana Yori Dango' anime and found out there was a live-action version, 'Meteor Garden.' So ditto and ditto on the mad love. I also tried Peach Girl (also because of the anime) but didn't care for it as much. But still, even though I loved MG and Mars like a crazy thing, I wasn't particularly into seeking out more of the genre as a whole.

Then, a few months after that, I watched the jdorama 'Hana Yori Dango' (because I am a HYD in every incarnation fangirl) and loved it as well, and realized three doramas I loved (as well as one I liked if not madly) is a really good track record, so gee...I maybe should look for more?

And I've been crazed ever since.

I think my love of doramas has a root about tree years ago when my friend from work introduced me to the Asian cinema - "Battle Royale", "2046", "Sympathy for Mr. Vengeance", "Ring" , "The Tale of Two sisters" - the whole string of really brilliant films. And then I met koalathebear and you and dangermousie later. You made me aware that there are good dramas made in Asia I wanted to try for a long time and finally watched "Long Vacation" which is my favourite dorama since. I also loved "Meteor Garden" and "Good Luck" and "Mars". Well - they are great, aren't they?

Funny enough, I have a similar story to yours. :)

When I was in high school, I became aware that our local international channel played Japanese dramas on the weekend. My first drama I got hooked on was Koi ga Shitai with Watanabe Atsuro and Kanno Miho. I would tape it late on Sunday night, wake up early on Monday morning before school to watch it enraptured, despite not understanding a LICK of Japanese. :D After that ended, I would check in randomly to see what dramas were on, but nothing appealed to me.

Late in my freshmen year at uni, I came home to see a commercial for GOOD LUCK!!. Oh, how I flailed to see that. I LOVE airports and flying so it was like the bestest thing to me EVER! ^_^ Happily, I watched and I instantly got into it. I did a little investigating online to discover that there were fansubbing groups for Japanese drams just like for anime! Even before GOOD LUCK!! finished airing on my television station, I had downloaded and watching it completely. Was mesmerized by Kimura Takuya's brilliant acting and loved ( ... )

I think I already told mine, but her is it again. :) Around three years ago, I got into anime and manga through a friend, who had been a fan a long time already and introduced me to a few "key" series. ;) (Lots of boy's love and yaoi.) *g*
Thanks to the internet I went on on my own fairly soon, and also started to buy German translated manga. My first drama was GTO actually, but though I liked it, it did not compell me to get more.

Then on December 26th 2004 (I just searched for the post, but it's in German) riccichan made a post about Kimi wa petto with MatsuJun, for which I had just gotten the first volume of the manga. *g*

I downloaded the series, loved it and began my search for more dramas to watch. ;) The next one was Gokusen. And I really liked MatsuJun, found out he was actually a singer in a boy band and started to search for more about him. Arashi was my first JE exposure.

More dramas lead to Takki, and that to KAT-TUN.
