2046 icons and discussion

I've made a small handful of 2046 icons (11 in total). Most of these icons were made for koalathebear, out of a discussion we were having about this gorgeous film. The film portion of the discussion is copied below, if you are interested in more 2046 randomness!

[x] Credit is lovely :) ( How to credit an icon) | [x] Comments are very appreciated. | [x] Please ( Read more... )

I love the icons. They are wonderful

I must admit i was really deeply touched by Tony Leung's character in this film, his loneliness, lost love and his sad love story with Zhang ZiYi . Not story of love kind as much as story of misunderstanding and hurt kind. 2046 was lagerly this for me - a story how we move in love, casually hurting each other and moving again, like on a train.

I loved Faye later in the "Chungking express", but i must admit that 2046 was mainly about Tony for me **sighs**. I must watch it again, to get on the same speed with you and koalathebear

The story of Tony Leung's Chow is very sad story, very haunting - I agree with you. For me, the film revolves around his struggle to recapture something that he'd lost, and knowing that it is impossible to do so. One of the saddest moments for me is (if I remember correctly) when he goes back to the apartment building of In the Mood for Love and he just misses Su Li-zhen and her child.

Takuya Kimura's character (and Faye's) represents the idealization of love and hope - at least they do in the present (not the futuristic versions), because Tak and Jin Wen (Faye Wong) eventually get married, despite enormous obstacles. I think their relationship and eventual union is an important symbol to Chow that his suffering and ennui does not have to be all there is, and that maybe it's necessary to leave 2046, get off the train, and find home somewhere.

Chow is so lost in the film! But Wong Kar Wai has that amazing voiceover with Takuya Kimura in the very beginning, in which he says that no one has ever left 2046, except him. I think that's ( ... )

Just something i forgot to mention - first time round i didn't realise that Takuya played both Tak and the future guy. They must be looking differently!!. Only after reading koalathebear posts i understood that they are the same actor.. ;)

I have "In a mood for love" at home for ages, should watch it!

Oh yes! Present-Tak looks completely different - he is clean-shaven with short hair, neatly slicked back, and a crisp white shirt. Future Tak has longish shaggy hair, a small moustache and faint goatee, and he wears strange clothing.

The first time I saw the film, I didn't quite get it either...and yes, you should definitely see In the Mood for Love - I love it!

LOL - that is too funny! Also a scary thought! I don't know that I could ever make that many. I mean, EVER, not just all at one time.

And thank you so much - coming from you, it does means a lot. I am learning sllloooooowwwwwly. With these, they almost made themselves because the pictures are soooo pretty, and Koala's caps were really good.

Yes, very scary. I know how long only 100 icons take me.

Good pictures are so important. I often have bad quality pics, but I want to icon (I'm using it as a verb here ;) ) them anyway.
I think you are very talented, my first icons were so ugly!

*blushes*

Thank you so much! I'm making a whole lot more 2046 icons this weekend...:) It's so frustrating when you don't have good images to work with, although I am learning how to clean them up a little or to make the colors more vibrant. However, with those Blue Faye icons, I didn't have to do much - the images were so vibrant all by themselves. I love sharp images with bright colors and I don't know how to do very much with effects (plus I usually like to keep things simple anyway), so all my icons are very basic. However, I do want to learn how to use the spots of light textures, because I do like that effect when it is used minimally.

:) I really appreciate your comments!

I'm so happy you like these! Enjoy :) It's a great film - so evocative and provocative, and one of the most beautifully filmed movies I've ever seen.

Enjoy the icon! I'm really glad you like it.

Btw, I keep this in my memories, as it is a useful reference: an icon credit tutorial.

Thanks again! :D
