I blame Koala (a 'Good Luck' squee)

I also blame ginger001, but mostly koalathebear for this post in which she talked about Japanese drama Good Luck. I started watching it Monday after it magically arrived (er, it was brought, special delivery by an All Nippon Airways flight, ahem, REALLY).

*evil laugh*

I'm really glad you're enjoying the show! As mentioned, many others have other favourites but Good Luck! is my favourite - hence my VERY embarrassingly obsesessive website dedicated to the show :P The episode guides are more like recaps so they're very spoilery but if you're up to chapter 6 you're mostly there anyway! :'( I didn't want the series to end.

The eating with the mouth open seems to be common in Japanese dramas. Also slurping of soup :D I will never get used to the slurping of the soup.

It's funny I had noticed that Shinkai's always late and it had crossed my mind that he always looks cold but now that you point it out - it's true that he's always shivering. He is very slight so it's possible that he feels the cold keenly ;)

I'm sure ginger001 will have a dizzyingly vast list of recommendations for you because she is far more au fait with jdoramas than I am but my favourite Takuya jdoramas are: Good Luck, Long Vacation, Love Generation, Hero, Beautiful Life in that order. Those dramas all have intriguing ( ... )

Good Luck is perfect for me because I adore all things about flying, flight, airplanes, space travel, etc. There is a small park at the end of the runway of Washington National Airport, and I could stand there for hours watching planes land directly over my head. In fact, I have sat on the banks of the Potomac River and watched planes flying into National Airport on their landing pattern and I always get excited. I love military airshows (where they display all the cool jets, helos, etc.) and okay, I'll stop. You get the picture. A show that is so affectionate about air travel has my love already.

But Takuya is a revelation!!!!!!!!He is far too cute for his own good and so sensitive! He is not how I expected at all - I really did expect a hotshot. Instead I got this really nice guy. He's foolishly impulsive sometimes, but he's so warm hearted and awkward and adorable, that he just looks like he needs hugs all the time!

Anyway, it's not just that Shinkai looks cold, but he often says that he's cold: "I'm cold" or "I'm freezing" and ( ... )

I will confess...I fastforwarded through the last four episodes just to get an idea of what was coming...and ooowwwww, poor Shikhai!

*laugh* What were you worried was going to happen!?!? If there was a Death of A Major Character I would have warned you ;)

Agh! And that's when dumb misspelling hit you square in the face...when they're quoted back to you in bold. Shinkai, not Shikhai. Oww.

I don't know what I was worried about! It may just have been an obsessive moment of lunacy. ;D

Oh my God. He is GORGEOUS. As soon as I finish Meteor Garden, I am watching this (and the other jdoramas that koalathebear recced. I am thinking of the one with a pianist and the older roommate one whose name escapes me).

Oh yes, Takuya is indeed gorgeous. He doesn't have the long hair in Good Luck and I actually love it short - and his cuteness is really quite overpowering. But the show itself is wonderful and just filled with heart. It's not heavy on the romance, but it's a nice thread. I love it to bits.

The other jdorama that Koala recced in that post was Long Vacation, which I will start on as soon as I've finished up with this. It's hard not to stay up all night watching these things!

Welcome! I'm pretty random, though, I should warn you...One day it's BBC costume dramas, another day it's Takuya Kimura (who I've really only just met!*grin*), and then it could be salsa dancing! I never know what I'll be posting about. :D

I still have to watch the last four episodes of Good Luck, and I don't want it to end! I'm really glad I started with this one, because it's perfect for my tastes in every way.

Good Luck!: Hotshot moment? koalathebear February 21 2006, 10:48:43 UTC
I was just thinking about how I like Shinkai because he's quite grounded and not an arrogant hotshot - even though the character could have been cast that way.

The problem is, there is one moment which I happen to love - but which could be considered kind of hotshotty :P

When Shinkai's being wheeled away for his operation, he looks up and sees a kind of miserable and worried looking Ogawa waiting for him in the corridor. He then does a kind of arrogant, blokey finger point at her. Pointing is rude I know and it's kind of conceited of him but part of me thinks that he was doing it to try to reassure her and that it was for her benefit rather than his.

Oh, I never thought that was conceited or arrogant or rude at all!! When I saw that my heart melted because even though he was worried about his leg, the fact that Ogawa came to see him just before he was wheeled away touched him deeply, I think, and I interpreted the pointing as: "Don't give up on me! I'm coming back! Everything will be fine!" and sure enough, she smiles a little afterward, when she couldn't smile at all before.

:D:D:D:D I love that little scene. I've rewatched it several times, because I thought it was a nice gift from him to her in a difficult moment.

I'm going to use the hell out of this Long Vacation icon. ;)
