I blame Koala (a 'Good Luck' squee)

I also blame ginger001, but mostly koalathebear for this post in which she talked about Japanese drama Good Luck. I started watching it Monday after it magically arrived (er, it was brought, special delivery by an All Nippon Airways flight, ahem, REALLY).

And I'm hopelessly in love.

Why else would I be trying to rationalize watching just one more episode, despite the fact that I'm ridiculously tired and falling asleep! I finished through episode 6 tonight, and I'm writing this to stop myself from watching any more or I'll end up staying up till wee hours watching the final episodes. I won't try to summarize it - other than to say that it's a show about pilots, cabin crew and ground crew for a Japanese airline. koalathebear writes it much better in her post and the blue-bolded link to her website above.

This show has so much heart! I love them all - Shinkai, the young, yet incredibly compassionate and thoughtful pilot (who is the main character); Togashi, the poised and kind chief flight attendant; Ogawa, the surly flight mechanic who is drawn to Shinkai despite herself, just as he is drawn to her; Captain Koda, the stern and ever-strict pilot who sets extremely high standards for both himself and his crew and expects them to be met; and all the rest of the cast and characters.

Takuya Kimura (right) plays Shinkai: this is the first time I've seen him act outside of 2046, and I'm really impressed. As an attractive young pilot, he could be this show-off hotshot, but instead he's really intense, thoughtful and kind-hearted - he always looks concerned, has a tendency to chew his lip, and also says things without thinking them through carefully! But I love him for it. :) Takuya is nothing short of amazing in this role (can't wait to see him in others). Since Shinkai is so serious most of the time, because he takes his job very seriously and is dedicated to his passengers and to the safety of their flights, he doesn't smile a whole lot. So when he does, it's like the sun coming out! You wait for those brief moments, when a smile will touch his lips and he's so unbearably cute! I love that he always seems to be freezing, that he's always running late, and that he talks with his mouth full. :)

I won't go any further, simply because I'm waaaay too tired to say anything more with any kind of coherence. I'm so sorry there are only ten episodes! I want more....
