I love this series so much, and this story is all the things I love about it, concentrate. I love the depth of affection these two have for each other. Your Jack and your Ten here have worked through all their issues and come out the other side in a way that I can really believe. And - I think I've said this before - I love how you never forget how alien the Doctor is. Brilliant!

LOL! We went icon-shopping the same place, didn't we? :D

Thank you! *blushes* I was a little worried that this story wouldn't really say anything new and exciting about the two of them, but I love writing them together in this context. Glad they're a believable pair in this 'verse!

I can't express how much love I have for this series. The trust between them is poetic.

“You’re echolocating? Since when can you do that?”

“Since I learned how,” the Doctor replied in a breezy voice. “About, oh, six hundred years ago. Glad I haven’t lost the knack.”

Hee! I love your alien!Doctor! His talents never cease to amaze me!

This was my favorite part:

"You trusted me that much?" the Doctor asked, and Jack understood.

"Of course. Always," he said, as if it was the most obvious thing in the world.

*melts*

Perfect!!

Aw, thank you! With these two, saying, "I trust you" means as much, if not more, than, "I love you." They're such woobies that way. ;)

Boy, everyone did go Ten/Jack icon-shopping in the same place . . . but they're lovely, so I totally understand! :D

Ooh, another Ten/Jack Flowers snippet! I love the wintercompanion challenges, because they really seem to inspire you with that series :) Mind you, I wouldn't mind seeing some more of Frost soon, if that's possible :)

Favourite lines, as for so many others, are these:

He was smiling, but it wasn't his usual manic grin. It was a small, soft expression that made him look disconcertingly vulnerable.

"Did you have your eyes closed that whole way?" he asked, cracked, strained voice warming.

Jack blinked. "Yeah -- it was too disorienting, otherwise." He wasn't sure what the Doctor was getting at.

"You trusted me that much?" the Doctor asked, and Jack understood.

"Of course. Always," he said, as if it was the most obvious thing in the world.

For some reason, I think the Doctor's not all that used to being trusted so implicitly by people who know him well - as opposed to random strangers, whom he simply expects to trust him because he tells them to ;)

Lovely, as always!

Considering that this comm is where the Flowers!verse really started (the other key impetus being that comment thread in the 2007 OT3 Ficathon), it only seems natural to Flowers stories here. ;)

Well, and especially coming from Jack, who has been through the wringer multiple times thanks to the Doc, but manages to keep his trust/affection/faith in the Doctor intact . . . Like I said in a comment above, for these two, "I trust you" is quite possibly more deeply moving than, "I love you."

Thanks! I sure hope to get back to "Frost" soon! I really want to tell that story! :D

Except that it seems to me that, by this time in this 'verse, Jack's got over all that. They survived the Year together, and they're now established lovers without even the need for artificial stimulants, which does suggest a degree of closeness and connection I'd suspect neither of them has had with anyone else before.

This, and a comment you made to someone on the Spoon about there being lots of Holy Grail to go around once Rose reunites, makes me think: how's she going to react to the fact that not only have the Doctor and Jack been lovers in her absence but they're also able to do it without help? Whereas she and the Doctor will need help. There's going to be a really interesting dynamic on board the TARDIS once all three of them are together again :)

Oh, very much so, but it's also still a very real aspect of their past, part of how they got to be where they are. Both of them are aware of that, too.

You're right -- things *will* be interesting for our three heroes when they try to readjust their dynamics in "Frost." The question is, do the feelings they have for each other go deep enough to survive the changes to their situation? Hence the title, of course . . . ;)
