Well, it doesn't look as though my job will survive in its current form past the end of the month. After that, it'll be a combination of part-time work for people who had worked here before who are establishing their own companies. Which is fine - since Joe got his new job last year, he makes enough money on his own for us to live on. Anything ( Read more... )

I didn't go to college until I was 43 so I feel you there but I found the students to be amazingly laid-back as to my being there. Heck, I'm older then some of my teachers in some classes.

I think you should do it! We need more teachers who are not DoE robots towing the socialist mantra!

Thing is - how could I go to work for the public school system, given my overwhelmingly negative opinion of the NEA?

Nothing is ever going to change if people only fight against something from the outside. Besides, you can do a year there and get a private teaching gig.

There are other options besides a public school gig. When Barb was looking for a teaching position, she saw a couple of openings at parochial schools, which she had to ignore, since she's Jewish and wouldn't be able to do some of the required religious curriculum. But not a problem for you ( ... )
