I started "Zumba 2" on the Wii Monday night. It's fun. And it's a hell of a workout - I'm doing the low intensity, short class (about 20 minutes), and it's pretty intense for me. Done right, it's burning at least 250 calories a shot, too. (I'm not doing it 100% right - I can't do the jumping they do because of bad knees, but it's still better than ( Read more... )

Does it start at a "beginner" sequence? I'm interested in trying it but most of the work out stuff I've seen in the past starts with the assumption of intermediate coordination. LOL

FYI, if you want to lose some pounds (and in the "right" places - hips, butt, stomach), switch out soda for water, cereal for fruits, breads for veggies. The body will stop being in "survival" mode (aka, fat production) and will start cannibalizing fat stores since it is no longer needed. (I've lost 15 pounds easily this way, fyi.)

I do the South Beach Diet - light on carbs, especially processed carbs, and fats. It's a terrific diet - the food is really tasty and I cook from the cookbooks even when I'm not dieting. I'm not giving up my Diet Coke (or...Diet Sodastream Cola, as it usually winds up being), though! :-p

The Zumba has tutorials to help learn the steps, but you can really jump right in - it's pretty easy to follow. There's a whole range of intensity. You can do the short class at low intensity (which is what I've been doing so far - I'll ramp it up eventually, but I'm not there yet!) which does about 250 calories in 20 minutes, as mentioned. I don't know how long the "medium" or "long" classes are, nor how intense "medium" and "high" intensity are. The low intensity short class is four high-energy numbers. The one I did yesterday also had one cool-down one, but the one Monday didn't.
