I keep hearing that part of the reason GM is in trouble is that they weren't making cars people want to buy (which is, IMHO, poppycock. They're making vehicles the government doesn't WANT people to want - that is, SUVs and trucks - but the people seem to like 'em just fine.)

Somehow, though, I just don't think that this is what the marketplace has ( Read more... )

I'm a GM baby. My dad worked there for 43 years; my father-in-law worked there for 25, and my husband and I met when we were working there. I'm not about to transfer my loyalty to anyone.

Well, my husband doesn't have the same sense of loyalty that I have. Which is why he owns a Thunderbird.

They had to make a bunch of small cars they couldn't make any money on in order to comply with the ridiculous cafe standards imposed by the government. They made money on the SUV's and such.

Oh, believe me, I know all about it. Nancy Pelosi says people want to buy "small, fuel-efficient cars," but the new Camaro has a waiting list, SUVs and trucks are flying out of dealerships, and there's a 200-day supply inventory of fuel-efficient Cobalts.

Obviously, the "people" Ms Pelosi knows and the people who buy vehicles are not the same people.

That said, I don't think the wheelchair car is something the marketplace has been yearning for.

Yeah - at 35 mph, and an hour's range, you'll get your route done in NO time!

GM is in deep trouble, but that's thanks to overtaxation, union thugs, Ron Gettlefinger, CAFE standards that literally defy the laws of physics, Obama, Granholm, Schwarzeneggar, and global warming/"climate change" apologists (liars).

Believe me, I know all these things. I've pissed off a fair number of people who WANT to blame management by proving it.
