Well, I put the ball in motion to get the little Spudlet baptized. I called the church today. I don't know whether we'll be able to have a private one - the person I spoke with said that our pastor is pretty adamant that baptism be a public celebration and, while I can understand that, I hope it doesn't mean that Father Bill has to schlepp out

Spudlet? What kind of a nickname is that for a beautiful name/baby like Catherine? She is nothing like a small potato. Even as I write this, I realize that all my babies were a little potato-like, and I apologize mid-stream.

Who is the godparent going to be? You sound pretty bitter, my dear. Hard times?

My family always calls babies "spuds." I don't know why.

I'm not bitter about the godparent situation, just realistic. The only logical candidate (and even he's kind of a stretch) is my brother. There aren't any other Catholics we feel close enough to to ask - and Joe's sisters are a) too far away and b) divorced and re-married (and I don't think they got annulments), so they're not candidates.
