Happy vids winkingstar December 20 2009, 16:27:42 UTC
Here are some happy vids to start us off! These vids never fail to bring a smile to my face, no matter how crappy I feel.

Celebrity (Brad Paisley) ~ Yes, a country song. But it's more pop than twang, and this video wins at making fun of pop culture and having awesomely hilarious guests (Jason Alexander and William Shatner!). It's full of sillyness.

Another Sunday (SGA vid by jescaflowne) ~ '80s music + awesome '80s effects + silly faces = win! You don't even have to be a fan of the show or have seen it at all to get a smile out of it.

Turn the World Around (Harry Belafonte + Muppets) ~ I could go on and on about how awesome the Muppets are, but the important part here is that they are always happy-making.

Gotta Have You (song by The Weepies; vid by RegiRae) ~ The epic love story of U & I! This is possibly the cutest video ever, I think. It's a fan-made animated vid for The Weepies' song "Gotta Have You". Grumpy I's! Charming U's! Random chicks hatching out of Easter eggs! Kites!

He is adorable! I think he is adorablest in Celebrity. The cute little pouty faces he makes... I just want to wrap him in hugs! Yes, his ears are way cute! :D

I ♥ "Gotta Have You"! Adorable song, adorable video.

Let's see... one video that always makes me laugh would be Literal Total Eclipse of the Heart. Also White and Nerdy. I could watch that every day and still laugh.

Happy words winkingstar December 20 2009, 16:50:16 UTC
I love words, especially the random and/or obscure ones, in languages I may or may not speak. Here's three especially random and happy words:

enfuzzification (n. to make fuzzy). My friend B. called me up just to tell me about the existence of this word because it is so randomly awesome. The best part is that it's not a real word (in the Oxford English Dictionary sense). If you Google "enfuzzification," you will get exactly one result: this book. My friend's a historian and one of her classmates read this book. You just gotta love academics who make up their own words and get them published. :)

kira-kira (Japanese, adj., glittering). "When I grew older, I used kira-kira to describe everything I liked: the beautiful blue sky, puppies, kittens, butterflies, colored Kleenex." ~Kira-Kira by Cynthia Kadohata (which, incidentally, is a beautiful book about finding happiness and seeing the kira-kira of life even after grief)

Schmetterling (German, n. butterfly). It's so much fun to say! I spent a day painting the faces of German ( ... )

We should have made you say "Fischers Fritz fischt frische Fische" or something. ;p

panjjak panjjak, which incidentally means shining, sparkling in Korean, makes me feel the same way as your kira-kira! ♥

My happy things - web comics! :D

Girl Genius - I spent a week sick at home catching up on this, and I've bought most of the print editions to support the Foglios. The Jägermonsters are my favourites, but I love the whole cast of this comic. It takes a bit to really get off the ground, but the mix of action, humour and steampunk is just perfect.

Gunnerkrigg Court - Again with the steampunk (with extra ghosts and mystery thrown in), but where Genius Girl is rather cracky, Gunnerkrigg Court takes itself more seriously. The plot kind of sneaks up on you in the best way. I really love this one.

Wondermark - it's just so charmingly arbitrary! One of my favourites is what bees are really talking about. The mouse-overs are as priceless as the ones at XKCD.

Speaking of which: XKCD! \o/
