At Christmas this past year one of my father's presents to my little niece was a yard-sale video tape of The Moon-Spinners starring Hayley Mills. I had no idea there was a book! From your description, it sounds a lot better than the movie... (Hope I'm not insulting a childhood favorite or anything.)

I just saw the movie myself, and then wanted to read the book. The movie's a fun romp and I enjoyed it, but I liked the book lots better. It's much more interesting, in plot and characters. The girl, Nicola (who narrates the story first-person), is a much stronger character than Hayley Mills' Nikki in the movie. The movie has a few suspenseful moments, but as I said I couldn't put the book down from about the fourth chapter on. And it's a vastly different story than the movie, too. Definitely check it out! :)
