I would like to join a gym.  Does anyone have any recommendations?  It would appear Fernwood, Zest and Curves are nearby.  And I could also go to Indro, where I think there's a Fitness First and a Workout.  Would anyone recommend any of these gyms?  Basically I'm just looking to use their equipment and maybe go to a couple of classes.  Membership ( Read more... )

Fitness First are who I'm going to, and they are wonderful. Currently they've got a $0 joining fee (!) - normally it's between $100-$200 to join. I pay $40 per fortnight on top of that for access to all FF's across Oz. :D (Ordinarily the fortnightly payment is $50, but there's a student discount).

Bonus: if you join FF, you can come to funk dance classes at toowong with me and another friend on Tuesday nights! (http://www.fitnessfirst.com.au has the timetables of classes, and there are some great ones).

There's also an FF in the city somewhere, I believe around North Quay, so you could to that before or after class at QUT.

If you want to join up, let me know - if I introduce someone, I think we both get some sort of discount...

NB: Workout is in a fairly inconvient location if you don't have a car. Fernwood tends to be on the pricey side. Curves is all good as far as I know. But come to FF, then we can do stuff together!

I went to Fernwood yesterday and their price is the same as Fitness First (39 bucks a fortnight) along with a currently free joining fee. I can also take Pole Dancing and Belly Dancing classes! :D

I'm going to check out FF and others this week. My bus from uni actually drops me off at North Quay so that would be an awesome option. Do they do Body Balance or Yogalates at FF? I'll check out the site...

Funk dance class sounds awesome. Have you done it before? What's it like?

Yeah, I think Workout isn't on my to-check-out list anymore. Do you know anything about Zest? I hear it's bad coz there's very few gyms around Aus.

I have no idea about Zest. But I do bodybalance every week, and they also offer straight yoga and pilates.

Have never done the funk class - Bec and I planning to start next week, I think.

Awesome, bodybalance sounds like my thing. Hey, does FF have aircon? I used one of my free trials at Fernwood yesterday and by the end of it I was so boiling. Considering most women who go there would probably have menopause, it seems pretty bad the aircon was so low, or off, or non-existent.

Lara recommends the UQ gym.

Zoe doesn't because the cardio theatre doesn't have enough machines, and as discounts go, it's really only worth it if you're a UQ student...

Um thank you. What classes do they have on offer?

Actually I've never had a problem with a shortage of machines. They have a really good range and it's a pretty quiet gym. Plus, the joining fee (even for non-students) is less than any other gym i've come across, and it only costs $14 a week for all classes and facilities, including pool, cardio studio, and weights gym.

Just defending my gym ;)
