What I have been doing lately:

- Listening to Thea Gilmore
- Getting angry at the world, while it, it would seem, in turn, gets angry at me
- Finishing my zine and in some respects, despising it
- Handing in my zine and missing it already, like a lost lover

What I haven't been doing lately:
(But probably should have)

- Writing my exegesis, which is ( Read more... )

angst, birds, uni, future

I will put to you the question put to me by Chad: Do you want to a)go on to a PhD with no value outside of an academic career, or do you want to b)just keep writing?

If you answered a): do Honours.
If you answered b): do a Masters.

I want to keep writing. But I want Honours to my name. Masters means I have to be published (or at least, doesn't it mean you're more likely to get in?), which I'm not, and even though I'd like to go out into the big wide world next year to get published/experience, I also want to stay at uni. What does Masters entail?

Honours isn't going to do much for your name. Masters doesn't mean you have to be published. According to Alasdair, who's doing one at the moment, the Honours process is more intensive than a Masters in many ways. I suggest this is due to Honours largely being a whole year of trying to get Honours I, so you can get a PhD scholarship.

In summary, Honours is a precursor to a PhD, Masters is its own thing.

Yeah, I know, I would say that, trying to eliminate my competition for Honours. But seriously, ask people who've done one or both. I did, and I'm telling you what they told me.

Since you asked what they entailed:

Honours
Masters

And of course, if you just want to pick up some units that you didn't get to do in the BFA, there's:

Graduate Certificate which Alastair (not to be confused with Alasdair) is currently doing.
Graduate Diploma

You want to get a pet rat too? I'm in the process of sterilizing my mice's old cage so it will be fit for rat habitation. We should hit the pet shops together!

Hurrah! Though I don't know how impressed my parents will be about a rat :/ Oh well :D Pet shopping would be great. What are the best ones? Apparently Pet City at Mt Gravatt is good.

Whee! I love those tweety birds too. Once, in a moment of weakness and fiscal irresponsibility, I bought five of them.

I also found a penguin that isn't battery operated - it just blows through rubber vocal cords I think to make a penguiny sort of noise when you hug it.

They're addictive.

Hehe, they are great. At the moment I have 8. They are sooo cute. I wish we could get more of the exotic ones from other countries here, but more often than not Toyworld etc only sell the Aussie birds. Not that I don't like Australian birds or anything :)

Tip: squeeze the birds one by one, or get some friends to help you so you can squeeze them all at once, and make a birdy chorus! Fun :D

On first glance, I saw "slash more toy birds" as a thing you really wanted to do. No wonder the squeakers are faulty!

You are so creepy ;)

Nooo I would never want to slash my birds :( I should've said 'get a pet rat/more bird toys' but I just love writing the word slash in there :D
