As happy as I am to once again be in my own body, my wonderful body which naturally people may dislike on face because they hate me because I am beautiful, multifaceted, talented, witty, intelligent, wealthy and internationally famous ( Read more... )

Really? My God. And all this time I thought I was just sensitive and well-dressed.

Whatever. Shut up.

I am not having a good night come to think of it. That is all.

Robin. If you don't get your pretty ass over here before my shift ends and tell me what's going on, I will hunt you down.

Fine. Fine. I do not normally take orders, but under the circumstances I am just wandering the streets pissed off anyway.

You may pace the length of the bar if you like. But I want to keep an eye on you.

Five or six minutes later, Robin does show up, with both hands shoved firmly into his expensive slacks pockets and a face that is mutable and neutral, despite the fact that Robin is clearly wearing some of what is obviously the best in his wardrobe-- clothing that should otherwise support a poppinjay attitude.

He throws his weight down in a stool in front of the bar at Lux before heaving a snort and giving a disdainful look around.

"I would have figure it would be busier in here tonight."

"It's a Sunday," Kyle said with a shrug as he polished a shot glass before filling it with vodka and sending it across to the puck without hesitation or inquiry. If Robin wanted something different he'd ask for it.

"People are less inclined to drink when the ones coming home from church can see them stumbling in the street."

Normally he prefers scotch, but he also doesn't feel much like offering an argument at the moment, especially considering he just wants to get started. Flipping the small glass back, he takes the shot and sets it back down with a ponderous tap, before holding up three fingers for Kyle and putting on his best 'I am a condescending, politically incorrect ass' voice.

"Please. That is such bullshit. Protestants are less inclined. Every good Catholic neighborhood for so long as I remember has always had a church and a bar on every street-corner. So that you could stumble out of one and into the other pretty much indefinitely, and some did."

"Bullshit or not, I see a distinct dip in bar traffic on Sundays. How would you explain it, then?"

Kyle refilled and set up the glasses like a production line, or a row of liquid soldiers waiting for deployment. He watched Robin with some degree of caution, wondering if the subject they were tip-toeing around was one to be directly confronted or best left alone. It was so hard to tell sometimes.

"I suppose that you are right-- as you at times are --in the end. It is no doubt because of that most useless of all emotions, the guilty conscience. I myself prefer to resist no temptation for that reason. Honest regret is more honorable. Unlike some things."

His short speech said, Robin grabs the first of the shot glasses and throws that one back as well. He reconsiders half of a second later and immediately takes his third for the evening, before he lets green eyes rove over Kyle and then around the bar for something to chew on. Or at least occupy his hands.

"It's not entirely useless," Kyle said, tapping a finger against his lips. "After all, I've made a career out of guilty consciences. A lucrative one."

There were pretzels if Robin wished. They would at least slow the stream of alcohol to a pace Kyle could keep up with.

"More honorable than what?"

Robin allows himself the fourth shot on the table, already poured, before he tugs over the bowl of pretzels and drags one hand down his forehead, to press middle and forefinger against his eyelids roughly.

"Regret is more honorable than a guilty conscience. More honorable than constantly thinking something and never acting on it. But then, I suppose the topic is in general better suited to being directed at and discussed by a creature who has the time of day for a code of morals."

The hand drops to dig into the bowl of pretzels to find one that isn't broken. Which Robin proceeds to munch on.

"Pricks."

Kyle considered and discarded several replies before he simply dove into it.

"Are you more upset about the fact that you aren't acting on it, or is it that he's assumed that you did?"
