Reqiescat in Pace, Fr. Richard John Neuhaus.

I generally don't have anything to do with a poem but post it here, so here is yet another.

I have spent way too long doing nothing, most of it involving computers, which is pretty much what I spent my time doing at Seminary (beside going to classes and the occasional homework assignment).

Meh. The internet is too much at times.

As I saved these poems I noticed that I have written more poems this year than any year since 2003.

[Edit] Added a third poem, a little off kilter from the first two, but the day has been a little off kilter since then.

This is a Christmas poem of sorts, but certainly does not fall into the vein of normal 'Christmas' poetry. It's based mostly on my thoughts from last night.

I'm not entirely sure how I feel about this poem, though I like the arc of the whole thing. It's a pseudo-sonnet, don't know if I'll ever sit down and try to make it a real sonnet. Its alternate title is Vanities of Vanities

I've been thinking lately, specifically recently about my poetry and I realized over the past 9 months or so (since late April/early May) my poems have moved through a hope/despair cycle. These past few days have had a major hope theme for me (which fits in well with Advent). All my writing and much of my thought has focused on it.

I have been debating with myself as to whether this poem is in a presentable state and am going to place it out here before I change my mind.

Today we celebrated the Mass of Christian Burial of Fr. Placidus Zach, O.S.B. He was both a veteran and a monk, having served in World War II as a Radio operator, and in the early fifties becoming a monk of Mount Angel.

May the souls of the faithful departed rest in peace.
